Door/other sensors
Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a PIR sensor that would work as a door sensor?
I found this in the manual:
Camera input ports
This feature triggers motion capture and actions when one of the camera's input ports is triggered. Network cameras typically have one or more input port (sometimes called "IO ports", "Alarm inputs", "External inputs" or "Digital inputs") that can be connected to sensors such as PIR (Passive Infra Red) motion sensors, glass break detectors, door/window sensors etc. SecuritySpy currently supports the input ports of Axis, D-Link and Canon cameras.
My system currently uses D-Link cameras. I'd like to add door sensors for more robust motion detection.
Follow-up question: is it possible for a door/PIR sensor to trigger recording in SS even if the camera is not set to Active?
I'm also looking to trigger emails based on sensor activity.

Please can you let me know what D-Link camera model(s) you are using?
SecuritySpy only records when it is in Active mode. Passive mode is basically a standby/viewing-only mode. -

That makes sense we can only record in active mode. At this point I'm just curious what we can do with PIR sensors (assuming we have compatible models).

Hi Ryan, I've checked and unfortunately none of the D-Link camera models you mention have digital input ports. What you'd need is a camera with a port on the back where you can connect a switch (or PIR sensor, which acts as a switch controlled by movement), then SecuritySpy can monitor this port and use this information to trigger recording and actions.
An example of a camera that has this is the DCS-2130 - from the camera's user manual:
See the "I/O Connector" block on the right. Are you looking to add another camera? We could suggest some models if that would be helpful.
