iOS Feature Request

I agree, this would be a nice addition. Unfortunately for iOS this involves re-coding the entire media playing screen. However we want to do this in order to add the feature you are describing as well as a few others (e.g. a share button).

Also a highlight to show which file was chosen when one return back from viewing the selected video, for now I keep track based on the time stamp filename and I have to have it in landscape to see the whole file name but viewing the video there are obstructions when scrubbing . Would be nice to keep it in portrait mode as there are no video obstruction by the three indicators that are visible in landscape mode.

Hi, I support also this request to have an option to swipe

To follow up on this, we have re-implemented the movie player in the new 1.7.0 SecuritySpy iOS app that is now available from the App Store. This has a left/right swipe to move between recordings, as well as a number of other improvements such as enhanced zooming during playback and a share button in the player interface itself. Any feedback would be welcomed.

Great new features on iOS app. Thanks!
I actually came here with request for tvOS app and I just noticed that it already works in iOS: I have some LTS dual-lens 180 degree cameras that present a 5120x1440 stream (very wide aspect ratio). SecuritySpy native app, web interface and iOS all deal with this fine, but the tvOS app shows a cropped/zoomed portion of the videos. Would be great if tvOS app displayed same (correct, but weird) aspect ratio on Apple TV as other SecuritySpy interfaces.
I really like have the tvOS/Apple TV app since it saved me a lot of money versus alternative ways of showing NVR video on different TVs. I wish Apple allowed deep-linking / "Mini App" style app+parameter launching from external APIs to integrate better with home automation systems (I use Control4), but I realize that is not in your control.

Hi @ChrisNicholson great to hear you are liking the new iOS features!
I'm not sure sure why the view would look so different in tvOS. Could you please email us and include a screenshot of this camera as seen in the iOS app, and a picture taken of the same view in tvOS? We'll then investigate to see what could account for the difference.
In terms of "deep linking", the SecuritySpy iOS/tvOS app does have a URL Scheme that allows it to be launched in various states via a link. Perhaps this will do what you want?

Email sent with pics to show what I mean.
I think I get the concept of the URL Scheme, but how would I get Apple TV to invoke that URL to launch your app and pop up the live stream? Is this something that could be done via SecuritySpy Homekit actions and then have Homekit send along the command to Apple TV? Over in the Control4 world, people seem to think that Apple doesn't allow such things from external drivers--- but maybe it works if command comes from a "friendly" in-ecosystem source (like Homekit)?

There is a way to do this, but it requires another app called DeepLinks. Here is my post about it:
I also have issues with the tvOS SecuritySpy app zooming and cropping my 180 cameras. I wish all the SecuritySpy apps had an option not to zoom in on the video and just display black bars. I also wish there were other options for the AppleTV multiplex so I could have two super wide angle feeds on top of each other or a super wide angle feed on top and two 16:9 feeds below it.

@emergent many thanks for chiming in with the info about DeepLinks - very helpful.
The next update to the tvOS app will use black bars instead of cropping for the full screen views, so I hope this will address your feedback here.
In terms of multiplex, the layout is automatically chosen based on the camera aspect ratios, so it should always pick the optimal layout. This has improved in recent versions of the app, so make sure you're using the latest version. But, currently only a simple grid format is supported, unlike in macOS SecuritySpy where you can have more complex layouts (e.g. two cameras side by side, below one wide camera as you describe).
