New Life for Wyze Cameras (and others)
@mark posted this a year ago but I'm so excited I think it's worth posting again.
If you've got an old cheap ip camera that you want to give a second chance at living a useful life, you've gotta check out this open source firmware replacement project: Thingino.
I've had a Wyze V3 sitting on my shelf for the past few years because of lack of RTSP support and total dependency on being internet-connected (it would frequently reboot simply because it was not connected to the internet).
Well, today I randomly decided to see if there had been any development in this area and that's where I found Thingino. Within 5 minutes I had the SD card flashed and configured with ONVIF in SecuritySpy. I got my Wyze V3 back with none of the terrible app ties or internet connection dependency. It even has a "paranoid mode" which makes it work even faster when you're connecting the camera to a no-internet network, for example.
This is the best camera experience I've had in years and I had to share.
Check it out - quickly improve your cheap old cameras and use them again. :-)
also check out this github for prebuilt SD card images:

Interesting. I know nothing about Wyze cameras. Could I buy something like this and use the firmware you're talking about?

Edit: Nevermind - I see now the camera directory in the Thingino firmware. Very cool. Going to explore this. Thank you for sharing it!
