If I have a 4 camera license, what should happen when I add a 5th or 6th camera?

I have 4 cameras in active mode, recording. I added a few more in passive mode, no problem. Now I've swapped in a new camera for one of the active ones and I can't figure out how to get rid of the demo label without disabling the passive cameras....

  • There are two ways that you can control which cameras are covered by the license:

    1. Camera order: by default, the first 4 (in this case) will be covered, with any additional cameras operating in view-only mode (allowing live video viewing but no other features). Use the option in the gear button under Settings > Cameras to reorder the cameras.
    2. Any camera can be specifically set to view-only mode (i.e. not counted towards the license) using the option at Settings > Cameras > Setup > Advanced Options.
  • Thanks, appreciate the response. I maybe should have mentioned I'm still on SS3. I tried removing (uncheck enabled) all cameras and adding them back in with the new one first, but the label came back on the new one when I added the additional 'passive' cameras after the first 4. I don't see any settings for "view only mode"= presumably called "passive" in SS3?

  • Version 3 is very old - discontinued in 2016. It lacks a feature to specifically set cameras to view-only mode, so it should be only the camera order that determines which cameras are covered by the license. If I remember correctly - which is not for certain - you should be able to reorder cameras by dragging them up/down in the list in the Camera Setup window.

You may like to consider upgrading to the latest v6 if your Mac supports it - it will be a huge step up in terms of features, performance and usability. SecuritySpy v6 runs on any Mac with macOS 10.13.6 or later.

  • K, never seen that camera status window before but you remembered correctly, that worked.

What version do I want for High Sierra? Will there ever be a 6 camera license? Thanks.

  • Good to hear that worked.

The latest v6 version of SecuritySpy supports High Sierra or later, so it will run on your Mac. You can read about all the benefits here (although this only describes the benefits of v6 over v5 - there are so many more improvements since v3!). We are not planning a 6-camera license, since the move from 4 to 8 cameras is already not very costly.
