Version 6 - Hikvision
I have been using version 5 to view camera feeds from my HikVision NVR and it's been great. I have just purchased version 6 but now all my cameras are offline. I have disabled the existing ones and added back one manually but I cannot get it working. Are there any debug logs which can troubleshoot the issue ?

Does it show a local address or an ip number when ur adding it?
hikvision profile?
-
The auto discover seems to use a name but I always replace with the local IP on my Lan.
I have had some of the camera's intermittently connect but the only success was when I disabled all of them and then re-enabled one at a time until I got to about 3 or 4 online at which point all the others would remain offline. It's just a hunch but I think SS is opening too many connections to the NVR somehow.
-
But it worked fine in v5?
-
No problems at all in 5

I did find that selecting the option shown gave slightly better results. Changed from camera's which never came online to intermittently working up to a max of 4 at a time.

I regrettably cannot assist you, but I wanted so share with you, that I've been running version 5 (and 4 and 3) with a number of no-brand cameras and one Foscam. In version 6 none of them display using my preferred Android tinycam Pro app.
All cameras display fine using version 6 on my iPhone, Apple TV and Mac (using Bensoftware apps).
The only way to get Tinycam Pro functional is to revert to SS version 5. And instantly all well.

@Robbie - we are aware of the problem with tinyCam, and we will resolve this soon.
@DaveGarratt - sorry to hear this, here's how you can provide us with the information we need to investigate:
- Create a debug file (SecuritySpy menu > Debug > Create Debug File On Desktop)
- Locate logs of failed camera connections: Finder > Go menu > Go to Folder > ~/Library/Application Support/SecuritySpy/Connection Logs
- Make a .zip of some of the recent connection logs plus the debug file, and email it to us.

I have emailed you the files (added to a ticket)

Re Tinycam: Thanks, Ben.

I find that once I have tried version 6 that the camera's become "offline" and then version 5 stops working until I have rebooted the hikvision,
-
Hi @DaveGarratt could you please try the new beta version? There have been some changes that I hope will address this.
-
So - I started with the situation where version 5 was running with 12 camera’s online.
I closed that and started v6 beta. For a few seconds 2 of the 12 camera’s appeared to work but then all camera’s went offline.
I then reverted to v5 and none of the camera’s worked.
A reboot of the Hikvision was required.

Do we have any idea what's going wrong ?

I have a hikvision cam using the Hikvision plugin (rtsp/udp) and it works for me.
-
I’m using a hikvision NVR rather than a camera - that must be the critical difference.

I currently have a ticket with Ben also with exactly the same issue: SS6.0 is not able to connect to my 5 Hikvision cameras (via the NVR), but reverting back to v5 each time is fine. I have tried the latest beta and the cameras do come online eventually (not immediately like in v5) but the connection is still a a bit glitchy with 'No key frames recently' messages. I've sent the latest logs off to Ben on my ticket, so hopefully will be fixed soon!

Hi @Robbie the tinyCam issue should be fixed in the latest beta version. Can you confirm?

Being a developer (albeit java) I have been trying to make some deductions about the symptoms that I see on screen.
When I try the latest version 6 beta and start it up I can see that 1 camera appears to be online for maybe 5 seconds and then it goes offline.
I am guessing that a NVR is somewhat different to a regular camera in that it has multiple camera streams linked to a single IP address. I assume as permissions/users can be assigned to different cameras on the NVR then any client must authenticate to each camera on the NVR rather than just once for the IP of the device (as it would for a standalone camera).
It's pure guesswork.
I also tried disabling all 12 of my cameras - starting version 6 and then using the setup screen to enabled them one at a time. I think this gave more promising results - albeit not what I would want to do every time I start the app.
I think at most I have have 4 camera's online at any time - but I can't repeat that now. I just see one briefly and then they all go offline.
Could it be that concurrent threads are trying to logon to the NVR all at the same time and overloading the NVR so it can't handle it ?

Many thanks @DaveGarratt for making your NVR available to us for testing - this specific incompatibility between SecuritySpy 6 and Hikvision NVRs is now fixed in the latest beta version of SecuritySpy, and will make its way to the 6.1 release that will be out soon.

I've just tried the latest 6.1b5 beta but it is not working for me.
Initially, all 5 Hikvision cameras came online, but then 2 went offline after a few seconds, and then all 5 went offline. It then periodically tries to re-connect but each camera says 'Connection closed'.
If I quit SS and start it up again, none of the cameras come online and permanently just says 'Connection closed'.

Be careful you have not done what I did. I had a SS shortcut in my dock. I deleted the old version from the Apps folder, copied the new beta into Apps and then ran the app from the dock. However is seemed to have found the version in the bin rather than the new version. I recommend deleting all versions you can find, remove any shortcuts from the dock - then empty the bin.
Reboot the NVR
Now unzip and run the new version.
For me with 12 cameras its working ok.

I downloaded the beta to my Downloads folder, unzipped it and launched it from there, so definitely no shortcut, and SSv5 is still in my Applications folder. I don't think you should need to reboot the NVR.
Anyway, I have tried it again this morning, and although the cameras were fine for about 15 seconds, the cameras randomly go offline every 20 seconds or so with 'No valid frame recently' before reconnecting.

For those for whom this is still not working correctly, we have made some further changes related to authentication with these devices, in a new b6 beta version. In our testing with two different Hikvision NVRs, this is now working perfectly - could you please try this and report back.
-
This new beta works on my NVR (so did the previous version).
Thanks
David

The new vb6 version also fixes my Hikvision problem too, so thanks Ben!
