Remote access stopped working after mu ISP changed my modem

I had Security Spy installed with remote access and worked great, my isp changed my modem and stopped working. I tried changing the name, the user etc but nothing worked. Finally I installed Port map and is working fine but I don like to be running an app doing what security spy should be doing. Any ideas why it stopped working? at the end is an app sending instructions to the router to open ports via UpnP.

It's not urgent but any ideas will be welcomed.

  • One more thing, in Security Spy Web test it returns green but without Port Map it does not work.

If you have enabled the "Automatic port forwarding" option(s) under Settings > Web, then SecuritySpy will be attempting to do what the "port map" software you refer to is doing, which is to use UPnP to configure the router to forward connections from the Internet to the Mac running SecuritySpy. So, assuming you have enabled this option, it must be that SecuritySpy's implementation of this was working for your old router, but not your new router for some reason.

This kinds of incompatibilities can occur from time to time unfortunately - there are so many different brands and models of router in the world, and it's impossible for us to test with every one to make sure that it is compatible.

If you don't want to use the port map software, what you can do is to set up manual port forwarding in the new router. This is described in our Installation Manual under Port Forwarding - Manual Setup. This involves setting your Mac to a static/manual IP address on the local network (or creating a DHCP reservation for it in the router so that it gets the same IP each time), and then creating a port forwarding rule to forward incoming TCP connections from the Internet on port 8001 to the Mac.

  • Port forwarding worked great. Thanks.
