Version 4 performance

When going from version 3 to version 4, most users will see significantly less CPU usage, however this can vary depending on the particular system setup.
Note also that version 4 is able to achieve higher frame rates, due to more streamlined and efficient network transfer, and if it is processing frames at a higher rate then you would expect to see increased CPU usage. Check that the frame rates you are getting for your cameras are the same in v3 and v4, to ensure you are making a fair comparison.
Also, if you have set SecuritySpy to recompress the video from your cameras, this may account for the difference (because SecuritySpy v4 running in 64-bit will by default use H.264 compression, whereas SecuritySpy v3 running in 32-bit will by default use MPEG-4 compression. A Mac from 2010 does not have any hardware video encoding features, and software MPEG-4 compression is a lot faster than software H.264 compression). Check that you have not enabled the "Recompress video data" options under Preferences -> Cameras -> Device in SecuritySpy v4.
Finally, note that if you see SecuritySpy listed in Activity Monitor with 50% CPU usage, this means 50% of one CPU core, not the whole CPU. So, for example, if your machine has 4 cores this is only 12.5% of the whole machine's CPU capabilities.
