FTP Timeout / Retry options?

Hi there!

as I continue testing SSpy in a remote location I am testing SFTP via satellite to our own servers in the bustling metropolus of Oakland California. However to get there SSPy must jump up to a satellite peering through giant redwoods, down to Arizona, and then through the whistling western wastelands to Oakland.

as a result I have some long 'transaction' times.

and I get many timeouts: ( edit )

01/22/2017 16:27:44: Error communicating with the FTP server "XXXXXXXXXX.com". 4.0.10,1320,88794 FTP general error. ssh: Could not resolve hostname xxxxxxx.xxx.xxx: nodename nor servname provided, or not known
Connection closed

is there something I can tweak to allow for longer round trips? a retry thread

I am also getting truncated upload files and occasional core dumps, but that's another kettle of fish. I haven't yet tied the timestamps together to see if they're related. the core dumps are always for IO threads.

  • We've made some improvements, and the latest beta version of SecuritySpy (currently 4.1b2) will now re-try uploads up to 5 times before giving up. This applies to incomplete uploads too - if the connection drops while uploading, SecuritySpy will try again. Please install it and let me know how you get on.
  • Thank you will do. I'll follow up in a couple of days. This is sort of an edge condition.
