Scanning for files takes a long time

Ever since upgraded to Security Spy 4 the scanning for captured files takes a very long time. My cameras are active all day so there are a lot of files to scan, however in version 3 it was much quicker. Has anyone else found this to be the case?
I have been using the iOS app in the meantime as it is almost instant for retrieving recent footage.

  • Yes, the new browser is significantly slower than the one in SS 3. It was previously nearly instant, now takes 5-10 seconds before video files are displayed after a date and camera is selected. This is with a 12 TB thunderbolt array.

Personally, I prefer the speed of old browser, but I guess someone else will prefer the continuous video time line of the new browser. For the way I scan, looking at motion cap files, the old browser was more efficient.

Like, you, I also find the web based browser is actually better suited for my footage review. The web based browser still acts like the old browser.
  • It's true that the Browser can take longer to scan the files in version 4, but this is because it has to do a lot more work in order to generate the timeline and merge all the footage into one 24-hour movie that plays back seamlessly. We're currently looking into options to cache or pre-prepare some of this work, so that the scan is faster.
  • pre-caching sounds like a great idea. The files being processed create changes that only incrementally change. The days between the current date and the date of file deletions are static. Once processed, the cached results remain valid for a time.
