Amcrest IP2M-841W-UK - no audio in recorded movies

Update with further tinkering: I changed the capture settings to record in half hour chunks (previously I had the default set). I now see .m4v files (previously .mov) and get the audio. I didn't change the configuration of the camera at all - it was set to send AAC encoded audio. The only other thing I can think of that I did was to enable audio preview in the main app and turn it off again. Is there any expected behaviour relating to video file formats and overall length? If so might be worth publicising.

Good to hear it's working now. Turning on/off audio preview won't affect the actual recorded audio in the movie files, it must have been a configuration change somewhere.
the .m4v file format basically IS the .mov format, just with a restricted set of video codecs (H.264 for video and AAC for audio). There is no particular length-related issues with either. The main practical difference is that web browsers will natively play back .m4v files, but not .mov files, so the former are strongly preferred if you use SecuritySpy's web interface. -
Thanks Ben. I didn't tell SS to create one format or another but it's odd that it changed when I reset the capture duration settings - what determines which format you write? Sorry if I've misunderstood.

If the "Recompress video data" and "Recompress audio data" options are turned off (under Preferences -> Cameras -> Device), then the format of video and audio being sent by the camera determines whether .m4v or .mov files will be generated. These settings are off by default, for best quality and performance.
If these options are on, then the settings under Preferences -> Compression determine if .m4v or .mov files are created.
