Dahua Hacked?

Ben,

Recent article in WSJ about hacked Dahua cameras. https://ipvm.com/reports/wsj-dahua

Any worries or preventions that can be recommended from you?

    Hi Trey,

    I think the camera is unlikely to be hacked unless it's directly available to the internet (i.e. you have specifically set up port forwarding in your router to the camera to make it available online). So if you haven't done this (and there's typically no reason to when using SecuritySpy) you are most likely safe.

    Additionally, make sure your Dahua cameras are running the latest firmware available from the manufacturer.

    Besides keeping the firmware up to date, you should have a secure password on each camera. There is malware that is targeting network cameras themselves that 1) are accessible via the internet and 2) have default passwords.

    Another thing to consider if you are really concerned is to separate the cameras out onto another subnet that does not access the internet.

    Thanks guys. I double checked my firmware and I'm set up with port forwarding, so I'm probably ok. thanks
