D-Link DCS-2330L "Green Screen" every few seconds

My setup is three cameras, DCS-931, DCS-932 and DCS-2330L.

All are on Wi-Fi and connect to Airport Extreme via an Airport Express in Bridged Mode (as an Extender).

The 931 and 932 operate without problem.

The 2330L encounters regular 'green screen' flicker, despite having a low FPS rate set. The green screen does not appear on the D-Link local webpage live video display interestingly, only on the Security Spy app.

I am assuming from everything else I have read this is bandwidth issue?

Any suggestions? Unfortunately LAN Cat5 connection or EoPower is not an option for this camera.

  • Ben,

I noticed in some other thread you mentioned the newer version of Security Spy might process the data better? I am currently running 3.4.10
  • Green screens indicate that the incoming H.264 stream from the camera cannot be decompressed - this is usually due to the camera sending bad video frames in low-bandwidth conditions. The web interface probably uses the camera's JPEG stream, which is why you don't see it there.

One possible solution would be to connect the camera by wired ethernet to the Airport Extreme rather than via WiFi, or use a Powerline adapter to create a wired ethernet connection via your building's power wiring.

Also, make sure that your Mac itself is connected to the Airport Extreme by wired ethernet.

Another thing to try is to change to JPEG streaming from this camera instead of H.264 streaming (you can select this via the Format setting in SecuritySpy).

SecuritySpy version 4 may improve this problem, but if it's the camera itself sending bad data (which is usually the case in these situations) there is only so much that can be done in software. Feel free to download and try out SecuritySpy version 4 (there is a 30-day demo period).
  • Yes! The new version seems to have resolved the issues. Trying out the 30 day period, but think an upgrade is looking very likely.

Now just have to figure out one of my cameras is now recording blank videos!
  • Great to hear that. Could you please explain exactly what you mean by "black videos" - do you mean one camera is recording black, or that it's recording motion-detection files with no apparently motion?
  • Hi Ben,

    Not 'Black', 'Blank'.

I have Permanent recording of video, starting on the hour, for each of my three cameras.

Each video is saved successfully as a .mov file.

All the .mov files open successfully in QT Player, but on one of the cameras (which records in H.264 stream) the .mov file shows as blank in the SecSpy Browser (even though the audio is clear)

  • Please try the new SecuritySpy update (4.0.6), as it should fix this Browser display issue. Let me know if not.
  • Yes. It did fix it!
