Feature request: possibility to add buttons in the camera window
I'm in the middle of creating a turnkey system for a nursery school.
It consists of a Mac mini (late 2014) with an Iiyama touchscreen. No keyboard. No mouse.
Thanks to drivers from touch-base.com the touchscreen works on the Mac and it's great.
4 camera's will be connected to this setup.
Users will almost never need to "touch" this system, except if they want to view recorded movies or get live audio for one of the camera's. To get the audio, they need to click on the window with two fingers to emulate a right click.
Which means in this particular setup it's not that intuitive as it could be.
A lot of Mac applications have the option to modify a button bar that's at the top of a window.
It would be nice to have this option available in the camera window and group window, so I can add a button to enable/disable live audio.

If you have the Camera Info window visible then it's a simple single-click on the speaker icon to turn on/off the audio playthrough - do you think this could be a good solution?

Might be. I'll have to look into that, but at the moment everything is back in the boxes for delivery.
I did experiment with the Camera Status window and I recall it shows info for audio recordings. Not sure if that could be used for the same purpose, but I do remember that it would "jump" back to a default screen position(*), with the bottom line equal to the top of the Dock. Thus overlapping the group screen that is visible all the time.
(*) after restarting SecuritySpy or after the Mac woke from sleep. Can't remember. -
The Camera Info window shouldn't jump back the default position, but it will move itself more on-screen if the bottom or side of it is off-screen when SecuritySpy starts up. If this is a problem for you we could look at this behaviour and possibly modify it in the next update.

We installed the system yesterday and the users where very positive about the quality of the images and the size of them. Before we switched to a Mac with SecuritySpy, we used a PC with the original Bosch software. SecuritySpy is definitely better in usability and functionality.
But back on topic: we showed the two options for enabling the sound:
- two finger tap on the camera image to display the pop-up menu
- adding the Camera Info window somewhere on screen and tap on the loudspeaker icon
The users preferred the two finger tap. The Camera Info window overlaps the visible image of a camera and they don't like that. Plus the loudspeaker icon is relatively small on screen so they have to aim carefully. And tapping on the image you want to work with is more intuitive.
So based on their initial experiences, I would suggest the following:
Add a pane to the camera preferences window with all the options that are available in the pop-up menu. Put checkboxes in front of them so they can be en/disabled as desired.
Then for those selected items, overlay (rather big) icons or buttons on the camera image in the camera and group windows.
That would add an even better usability in a touchscreen setup.
