SecuritySpy 4 PTZ
I really like the new design, the timeline on the browser is a big improvement as unless I missed something we had to rely on the time stamp in the video feed. I can't seem to get the PTZ working on my cameras now... I used to right click on the video feed and click PTZ to get the controls... however that option is no longer there... i can't find it in any menus now either... what am I missing?

Glad you like the new design!
To cut down on the number of different windows, which clutter the screen, PTZ control is now integrated into video windows - for any video window that has a PTZ-enabled camera, there will be a PTZ button to the right of the window's title bar; click it to get a pop-out PTZ drawer. See the PTZ section of the SecuritySpy user manual for more information. -
ben, thats great, it looks slick although you can't see what each of the presets are called now like you used to be able to do... also for my onvif camera when i click any control button it seems to think I'm holding it down and will go in that direction infinitely... this is also the same for zoom...

Yes we removed the preset names in order to make the window small and neat. If we get enough users requesting their reinstatement then we'll do so.
Was the ONVIF camera's PTZ working fine before? Which SecuritySpy version were you using before? We've had trouble getting the ONVIF "stop" command right for all cameras, as there are different formulations of this command that seem to be accepted by different cameras. The implementation in 4.0 is ONVIF standard-compliant but not all cameras themselves adhere to the standard so strictly. If this is a problem we'll have to investigate what we can do about it. -
thats a shame about the preset names... perhaps when you rollover the number it comes up with the name... I had this problem on a previous version when you first implemented onvif and you fixed it with a revised version for me that you emailed... I was running the latest version of security spy (prior to 4) as I always keep it up to date.

For my 2 cents here on PTZ, I would love if you would put the keyboard commands back for this. I never really opened the PTZ windows, I always used my arrow keys for left, right, up, down. They don't work at all now even with the PTZ window open.

I'm also once more seeing infinite motion once a PTZ command is sent to my Sunba camera. The v3.4.11b4 beta had it fixed, but the 4.0 implementation broke it again.
I would also like the keyboard PTZ operation reinstated. Even more so now that the PTZ controls are forced to be on the right of the windows. I have my cameras visible on a full size window that fills the screen. Now to us PTZ I have shrink my main windows or open a camera specific window. A separately positionable PTZ window actually is greatly preferable over the new "neater" drawer implementation.
If we at least get keyboard commands back, I can avoid using the PTZ window/drawer. The presets never worked for Sunba cameras via ONVIF anyways.
[Edit I see the keyboard works if one holds shift] -
Hi @mgraphix - the keyboard commands still work; you've just got to hold down the shift key on the keyboard while you press the arrow keys or numeric keypad.
Or, hold the shift key and click to the left or right of the camera's video image directly: this will move the camera accordingly.
@guykuo - what profile are you using for your camera? Is it ONVIF? We're investigating the problem with movement not stopping and hope to have it fixed soon. -
Onvif profile.
Sunba was supposed to reach out to Ben Software regarding PTZ testing. They told me that they have set up a camera with access for Ben Software testing. -
The PTZ presets work for my Foscam clone but using the direction arrows produces continuous movement to the limits of the camera's view. I can stop the motion by clicking on one of the presets and that reverses the motion and goes back to the preset. Also, the 'speed' slider is greyed out, although that might be a limitation of my camera. The PTZ controls are still working OK in SS3, one click of a direction arrow produces a small movement in the appropriate direction. Using the latest SS4 Beta 4.0.1b2

Tested PTZ motion with release 4.01 and found something very surprising....
The results DIFFER between keyboard & shift clicking window VS clicking buttons in PTZ drawer.
Click on drawer arrow buttons ---> non stop motion (bad)
Click on drawer zoom buttons ---> non stop zoom (bad)
Shfit + keyboard arrow ---> moves one increment when key is pressed (good)
Shfit + hold keyboard arrow ---> moves while key is pressed (good)
Shift + +/- keys ---> no zooming change ??? wrong key ???
Shift + click on window ---> moves only when clicked (good)
Shift + click & hold on window --> moves until mouse button released (good)

Also with 4.01...
PTZ controls via web server works correctly for motion and zoom. Single click --> single motion or zoom movement.
This looks to me like the PTZ method got duplicated in SS and there are now two versions of the method being called instead of a common method. One version has been rewritten to work correctly, but the other (the one called by the PTZ drawer) is behind on it editing.
Either that or the method call in the drawer's calls is firing a different timer that is failing to send the stop signal. -
Thanks for this great feedback. There does seem to be an issue with the new PTZ drawer, it doesn't seem to be sending the "stop" command at the end of the button click. This should be easy for us to track down and fix. I'll make sure this is done on Monday and I'll post a link to an update here.

I've just posted an updated beta version of SecuritySpy with this problem fixed. Please confirm PTZ now works as expected.

Sorry to report. I'm still seeing non-stop motion (on my Sunba Onvif) with the drawer PTZ buttons with 4.0.2b1. Double checked that indeed downloaded & ran 4.0.2b1.
Nothing in error log after problem.
The keyboard PTZ motions continue to work correctly. They stop correctly. The keyboard arrow keys + shift do stop the drawer button induced continuous motion as well. -
Hi Guy, sorry about that - let's try this again, new beta at the same page linked to above (4.0.2b2), does this one fix it? Thanks!
-
Yes, the one I just downloaded fixes the drawer PTZ non-stop for me.
NB. The new download is has version info marked as 4.0.2b1, but has a build time of 3:19AM
Definitely works whereas the earlier, b1 did not. I think you got the bug isolated and squashed (at least for my Sunba Onvif camera)
BTW, are there keyboard zoom commands in new version? 3.04 had +/- keys working for zoom? I can't find similar functionality in 4.02. -
Great to hear that!
Yes there are keyboard zoom commands: hold shift and press + or - on the keyboard. Likewise, hold shift and use the arrow keys or the numeric keypad to pan and tilt. -
Yes, that's fixed the PTZ control for me too thanks.
