Display issues (link to pic included)

Hi,

I'm having a strange issue with the screen view in SecuritySpy of one of my Hikvision cameras. Once in while I get some type of screen abnormality (pixelation?) at the top of the screen.

see pic here: https://app.box.com/s/mlu2ax9mn1kvuff3uzf8luf46rlapq6b

If I log into the camera the abnormality doesn't show but if I reboot the camera, it clears it up in Securityspy view.

Below is the info for the camera:

Basic Information
Device Name
Device No.
Model DS-2CD2432F-IW
Serial No. DS-2CD2432F-IW20160122CCWR571152589
Firmware Version V5.3.0 build 151016
Encoding Version V5.0 build 150327
Number of Channels 1
Number of HDDs 0
Number of Alarm Input 1
Number of Alarm Output 1

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Michael

  • I have to admit I haven't tried restarting SP when it does occur but like I mentioned before it happens rarely. Anyway, it's very inconvenient if I happen to be away and can't reboot the camera.
  • Hi Michael, I notice that this is when viewing via SecuritySpy's web interface - do you also see this in SecuritySpy's video windows? How is the camera connected to the Mac? if it's on a WiFi network there could be some corruption if the signal strength is too low, or if there is interference, but this would normally be transient.

Does this happen at predictable times of the day (e.g. when the camera is going from night to day mode, for example)?
  • Hello Ben,

Since it happens so infrequently, I'll have to wait for the next opportunity to view it through SecuritySpy's video window but I'll report back when the issue reappears.

The camera is connected via a WiFi connection and it's pretty close to the Airport Extreme (approx. 10 feet) but I can add a cable to see if it clears up. The last time it occurred, other than this recent episode, was about a month ago in the evening. I'll be more vigilant about checking the network next time it occurs.

    Thanks,
    Michael

I'm also seeing this on Hikvision, as well as green screens. I see it in the video window, will check on remote patrol and web server next time it happens
Both connected via ethernet using a POE switch, don't see it on the Hikvision software.
And i've turned them down to 6fps, bitrate 2048, 19920*1080P

Here's one of my cams stuck on green screen, however i can view it live via the web interface and using LiveCamsPro.

All apps related to security spy show green, is this related to the new 4mp cams?
If I restart SecuritySpy the cam comes back online.
  • Have same camera (and others from Hikvision). Solved this issue by switching to the ONVIF device and leaving ports blank.
  • Or not. Still flashes green frames every now and then.
  • I notices it crashes every day or so as well. It may very well be due to bad h264 data coming off the camera, though the live view from their app and/or browser (via plugin) works fine. Here is a crash log:

  • I still have the same issue , security spy crashes now and then both cameras get corruption and the only way to clear is to reboot security spy.

security spy support blamed the issue on bad camera firmware and wireless network although I clearly stated I have a full ethernet network.
  • Hi all, anyone with problems with video decoding should try the new version 4 of SecuritySpy, released today. It uses different video decompression routines (Apple's new "Video Toolbox" libraries, which are more efficient and compatible, and employ hardware acceleration), so certain video streams that weren't quite compatible with QuickTime (which is what SecuritySpy version 3 used) will hopefully work with the new routines.
  • Yea I have this happening on my Amcrest Camera. My other 7 are fine. I am running the demo of SSv4 now and the green flash is now gone. Its now a grey flash instead :) .... I am at work and did the upgrade remotely. Will play with it more when I get home. Could it be a framerate issue? Not sure how I would change the Framerate on the manual command area for Amcrest Cameras.
  • SecuritySpy uses different libraries to decompress video frames (before it used QuickTime, now it uses the more modern and capable VideoToolbox). However at root of this issue could simply be that the camera itself is supplying bad data, leading to frames that cannot be decompressed (which look green under QT and grey under VT). If your Amcrest camera is connected wirelessly, this could be the cause - are you able to connect it by wired ethernet instead?

Yea it is wired not wireless. I hate to sometimes say "well it works fine in blue iris" lol but I only say that to let you know the camera itself is working fine. It also works fine via remote access using the app that came with it. (Amcrest Link).

On a side note, since I have you here lol, I heard rumor there was gonna be a 12 cam version in the next update. Bad rumor I take it?
  • I have occasionally seen the same pixelation issue reported by the OP with my Hikvision cameras. In my case it was either a high frame rate issue, or more recently it showed up during a tropical storm here in Florida. That I attributed to moisture getting into the ethernet connector at the camera. Sometimes just rebooting the POE switch resolves it too.
  • I'm also seeing this issue with SecuritySpy Version 4.
This never happened with version 3.4.10

I notice this because one camera acts as my doorbell. With version 3.4.10 I would only be notified when someone was actually on my doorstep, but with version 4, I've had over 10 notifications last night...

My cameras are set at 6FPS.
This is also a Hikvision camera, (DS-2CD6412FWD-20).
I have six other Hikvision cameras (different type) that don't seem to have this problem.

So I looked in the settings of each camera, and Hikvision has an option called SVC (scalable video coding). For my other cameras I had set this option OFF, but this one camera that is giving me the green screen, had this option set ON... so I now turned it off and am waiting to see what happens.

fwiw, I think the green screen flicker is something entirely different than the grey screen flicker. I too see grey screen flashes, but they are only part of the screen, not the complete frame, whereas the green screen was always a complete frame..
  • Anyone getting grey/black flashes when viewing video via the web interface should upgrade to the latest beta version of SecuritySpy (currently 4.0.1b2), as this issue should now be resolved.
  • I can verify that the new beta fixes the grey flashes.

The green flashes I was seeing have also stopped by turning off SVC inside the Hikvision camera.
(I mention this because there is talk about green frames with hikvision cameras in this thread)
  • The new 4.0.1b2 beta fixed the grey flashes I was seeing on Remote Patrol on my iPhone. Thanks!
