Samsung SmartCam HD Plus
Hello,
Has anyone had success connecting a Samsung SmartCam HD Plus (model: SNH-V6414BN) to SecuritySpy? I realize that this camera is not officially supported, but it seems very similar to another Samsung camera that is, so I thought I'd give it a go.
I was able to connect and get a properly oriented picture, but after trying each of the inputs in SecuritySpy, even the best image was overexposed with no color range — just a strong magenta cast. Interestingly, after connecting with SecuritySpy, the picture was then overexposed and magenta in the official mobile app as well. Only power cycling the camera returned the picture to normal (in the app).
I have a number of these cameras, but they don't natively offer remote recording or the ability to live-view more than one camera at a time. If there's a trick to get them to play nice with SecuritySpy, that would be a fantastic improvement
Many thanks.

Hi,
What settings did you use to get the feed from the camera into SecuritySpy?
Strange, there is no particular reason I can think of that this stream should have a weird colour cast to it.
Does this camera have a web interface, or can you adjust it via the Samsung app? -
Hi Ben,
I used the camera's IP address with the same password that was created when the camera was initially set up.
I did find an input with good exposure (2 or 3, I think), just the color is miles off.
Since the weird color also showed up when viewing the camera on the official app, it makes me think that it's the image coming from the camera that's wonky and it's not just something happening inside Security Spy. Looking at the image, it feels like maybe the camera has switched to IR, nighttime mode, even though it was daytime? I tried toggling the 'night vision' camera setting in its app, but this had no effect.
There is no web interface for this camera, just the app. After trying several settings changes to try and get it to snap back, the only thing that worked was disconnecting from SS and power cycling the camera. After that, it behaved normally.
I didn't see any settings in SS (other than the different inputs) that seemed like they would have an effect (or did, as I experimented) but as a SS newbie, I don't even know what I don't know

Hi - it could be a settings issue, or it could be that the camera is simply faulty. It's good that you have it working at the moment, but I just hope that this issue won't return in the future. From SecuritySpy's point of view, it is simply requesting the video stream - it has no opportunity to request specific colour/exposure/IR settings. If you are able to easily return the camera then you might like to do so, though you may feel that since it is working at the moment that it would be the best option to stick with it and hope for the best.

Thank you for the information on the SecuritySpy software. I was in the dark about what kind of communication might be going on between SS and the camera, so this is a helpful clarification.

Are there particularly ports you're using or something? I can't even seem to get the camera to connect (it works fine via the Samsung website and the setup app) so I know I'm using the correct password in SecuritySpy, but I keep getting an "Authentication Error" message on the SecuritySpy setup page. Thanks in advance.

Hi @stevejones - make sure the password has 8 characters or fewer, this seems to be a quirk with these cameras.

What is security spy and why are you using it?
I have this camera and i like it, but the software app just plain sucks and is updated and clunky.
I have another app called Iseeu. Would I be able to add this camera to that app and not use the samsung app? -
Hi @Jackie1 this forum is specifically for our software products, mainly SecuritySpy, which is CCTV software for the Mac. If you have a Mac then please check out SecuritySpy, but I'm afraid we won't be able to help you with any other software.
