glitches with video blocking mask

I've got a Hikvision DS-2CD2332-I. I've set up a video mask and I'm getting periodic lights flashing or flickering across the mask. This seems to coincide with frame rates jumping around although the camera is configured to a manual 15 fps. Although this has happened during 'active' mode and the video has been recorded, I;ve yet to see any of these glitches recorded.

  • This is one we haven't heard of before! If you are able to capture a clip to demonstrate this, or a screenshot, we would very much like to see it, so please email it to us. If you see the flashes on the screen, while the recorded files are fine, then this could simply be a display anomaly, which fortunately will not affect captured footage. Do you see any other display anomalies on this particular Mac? I'm thinking that perhaps there is some issue with the video hardware.
  • It's just this camera OR this location which co-incidentally has a video mask and I also noticed that the video would not update from time to time but when I removed the video mask the fps settled down to it's proscribed 15fps and the video updated normally. I used to have an avtech camera in this location with the same video mask and periodically the FPS would jump around up to 35 and down to 1 fps, I wasn't looking for light static then and didn't notice it but I thought the camera was faulty so I moved another avtech to the same location and got the same behaviour. They are wired cameras so no wireless fault. I can't capture the glitches, it's like light static, quick as a flash. So as this is now a Hikvision with the same behaviour that resolves when I remove the video mask it seems to point to the mask.
  • HMM definitely something to do with the mask. I drew a mask on another camera in a different location and I'm getting the same thing, in daylight as well as night. I never noticed this before until recently as we've had a lot of drug related activity and I've been monitoring footage more closely.
  • Hi Peter, please check if the camera itself has a blanking mask feature and if so use that instead. The blanking mask is not a feature that is used often by customers, and we are planning to remove it in the next version of the software. However we're not aware of any problems with this feature and I can't think of what could be causing the anomalies you're seeing. Unfortunately without any screen captures or example video clips to demonstrate, this is going to be extremely difficult for us to track this down.
  • I just checked and the cameras do have a blanking mask . I've activated it in iVMS4200. When activated In SS It's definitely associated with the flashes, frame jumping, video not updating. Ive had various problems like this since using SS but was always trouble-shooting the cameras and connections. As I said, I have been closely monitoring street activity and when my security light activates the camera records for the prescribed 30 secs, then glancing again at the monitor, the security light remains on so I look outside to check and it's off, yet still on in SS. The video freezes and stops updating. The same on Foscam, Avtech and Hikvision cameras. All these problems stop when I remove the video mask. I'm just sorry it took me so long to notice this as it's caused some awful waste of time tweaking cameras, connections, wiring and software. It's a desirable function as I've assured my neighbours that their properties are blanked out so I'll try the camera's mask and see how I get on.
  • OK been using the built in camera mask now 24/7 and no glitches, flashes, video freezes etc.
