Camera not connecting

Hi, I'm currently running SecuritySpy as a trail whilst I get my IP cameras all installed before I make the plunge on the licence fees, however, i've run into an major issue with one of my cameras.

It used to display on SS fine, and recordings worked brilliantly (abet with the trial banner, but thats something else...)

Just recently one of my cameras has decided to disconnect completely from SecuritySpy and will no longer connect, however on the windows CMS app that came with the camera, and a ONVIF software I have sourced, displays and connects fine.

Before the camera could't connect, I've made no changes to the network infrastructure at all, which is running on a 4 port POE switch at 100mbps, in turn connected to my 1000mbps switch, and all connected with cat6 cables. The camera itself is a ANRAN AR-24NW-IP10-POE (probably a chinese cheapo one) configured in SecuritySpy as a ONVIF Camera, with it set as 720p resolution and 10fps on the camera itself.

I've looked in the logs and this is the error message if any of it makes sense!

13-04-2016 0649-58: Error communicating with the network device "Side" 3.4.10,70901,800 The operation timed out

I'm a bit confused as it connects on the windows side in CMS, ONVIF Device Manager and the web NetSurveillance on windows, but not the Mac.

In all seems to be a good program, although my other cameras disconnects frequently, with a blue screen but they instantly come back up. Ive researched this and it may have something to do with a timeout, but couldn't find anything with resolved this.

  • These are all network-related issues. Are the cameras and SecuritySpy attached to the same ethernet switch by wired ethernet? If so then the network hardware probably isn't the problem, so the next thing to look at is the IP setup of the cameras. Are they set to static IP addresses, as recommended in the SecuritySpy Installation Manual? If not, the addresses could have changed, which could cause the problems you are seeing.

Anran cameras are not currently on our list of compatible cameras, because we did some testing with them last year and found some problems. Perhaps these have been fixed in a newer firmware update, but we can't guarantee it.
  • Hi Ben,

thanks for the responses - All equipment is part of the same network, so no issues with the hardware.

Cameras all have Static IP addresses, and I was still able to access the web version of NetSurveillance using it's IP address (192.168.1.172)

I reset the camera last night in frustration, which went back to its default 192.168.1.10 IP address and changed the settings in Security Spy, and low and behold, connected again without any issues have has been stable since.

Will set back to the static IP I want it to have at the weekend and see if it stays up this time!

Would love to have supported cams on my system, but the cost of these cameras seems quite steep. I guess with this Anran, you get what you pay for I suppose!

How have other users got on with Synshore cameras? Looking at a few of these
  • Good to hear the camera reset was successful in making the camera more stable, hopefully it will remain this way. We've never heard of Synshore cameras and have no feedback from users. For good-quality inexpensive cameras I'd recommend having a look at Dahua Technology - they have a great range of cameras with very competitive prices, and they work very well with SecuritySpy.
  • Just a quick follow up:

The Anran camera had it's IP changed to static last weekend, and so far seems to be solid in SecuritySpy with exception of the camera automatically disconnecting and reconnecting regularly - I've noticed that the motion sensing isn't 100% so perhaps this is the reason why?

    The Logs state:
23-04-2016 1157-38: Error communicating with the network device "Side" 3.4.10,8440,8800 The server closed the connection

Is this something to do with the heartbeat that SecuritySpy sends?

I also have a Synshore camera on the system, quick setup using the ONVIF protocol, seems to be running fine without any issues for me (that i've seen)
  • If the camera is disconnecting frequently and very regularly (e.g. exactly every minute), then this indicates a problem with the heartbeat message. If you are just getting random disconnections every once in a while, this is some other issue (e.g. network issue or camera issue).
