Night Time Alerts
Hi,
I'm new to this product, as a matter of fact I am still running the demo. I have 2 cameras, Hikvision dome cameras, running on the exterior of my house. Great image by the way. My issue is that night time alerts never happen. During the day I get alerts with out issue. Seriously, I get a lot of alerts, so I know that it is set up correctly.
Night time is a different story. Motion capture still occurs just fine, but no alerts come through. Do I need to configure this different for when the IR comes on? I feel like I am missing something very simple.
Thanks for your help.

Are you sure the camera is in Active mode during the night? If so, it's possible that the change in lighting is throwing off SecuritySpy's motion-detection algorithm somehow. What have you set for the motion-detection trigger time and sensitivity settings? Generally these should be 1-2s and 50 respectively (you'll find these settings in the Setup section of the Camera Settings window). You could try increasing the sensitivity a bit as this should help reduce false negatives.

Sorry for the slow response, I have been on vacation.
Yes, the cameras are in active mode, and they do still capture events at night. There are just no alerts. And it rarely captures false motion, good job on that.
The current settings are:
Trigger time = 1.5
Sensitivity = 40%
Are night time settings independent of daytime settings? As in, can a camera be set to passive at day time and active at night? I have the default schedule set which is green for all times.

If you are still getting captures, the the motion detection is working just fine and the camera is in Active mode which is what you want. By "alerts", are you referring to emails or push notifications to your iOS device?
-
That is correct. The email alerts. They come through fine during the day but once the cameras IR turns on the alerts(emails) stop. But motion detection and image capture continue to work just fine.

same problem here too! ...works perfectly one day, but not the next OR works perfectly for a long time then suddenly there will be one night where our iOS Notifications do not get through but miraculously appear during business hours again.
-
Ooops! ...wrote too soon: it's daylight now and still no Notifications...have turned them off, then on again in the iOS app and reloaded Security Spy knowing it will reconnect with the Apple Servers and load the latest security certificates AND STILL NO NOTIFICATIONS!
-
Unfortunately the certificates used to authenticate with Apple's servers need to get renewed each year, and this has just happened, resulting in a day or so of downtime. SecuritySpy will automatically download new certificates from our server, so this should start working by itself soon, but for anyone who wants the service restored right now, please download the latest beta version of SecuritySpy which has the new certificates built in.
As for differences between day and night: if SecuritySpy is in Active mode, and motion-triggered recording is correctly happening day and night, and push notifications/emails work during the day, then SecuritySpy will also be sending push notifications/emails at night, so the problem must be on the receiving end. Perhaps the phone is set to "do not disturb" or something similar, which mutes notifications? -
Ben,
Thank you for working with me on this email issue. I appreciate your time and effort to support this software.
For clarification, I am not referring to push notification. I am only looking at the email alert notifications within the SecuritySpy software. I just finished verifying that my cameras are indeed set correctly, in active mode, while the IR is engaged(night time), and email alerts are still set to send to the same two email addresses. And last night there were several motion images captured that did not trigger an email notification.
As for the receiving end of the email alerts, its just email. My inbox should receive the alerts whether a device is on Do Not Disturb or not. And I am sending to two separate email addresses from different providers to be certain there is no service issue.
Any other thoughts? Does SecuritySpy have a night mode? Maybe there is some other setting that I am missing?

Hi @Tomengstrom thanks for the clarifications. There is no particular "night mode", though a schedule could be set up to achieve this. Probably the best way forward is if we can check all your settings. Do allow us to do this, open SecuritySpy and press the space bar three times in a row - a "Debug Info" file will appear on your desktop. Please email us this file and we'll take a look.
