I was wondering if it might be possible to have a mode where the software is running in a lower resolution until it detects motion and then switch into high resolution mode until the motion is no longer present. This would save both CPU and network bandwidth. Also on my Axis camera's is it possible itself to detect motion and trigger a number of events. I was wondering if it might be possible to let the camera do the hard work and simply notify SecuritySpy that something interesting might be happening and start recording. Again to reduce CPU and bandwidth.

    Hi Dave, this is a good idea in theory, but in practice I don't think it would work very well, mainly because stopping the low-res stream and starting a high-res one takes a few seconds, and you'd therefore miss some of the event being captured. Plus, you wouldn't be able to use SecuritySpy's pre-capture feature, which keeps a buffer of recent frames in order to be able to capture video starting a few seconds before the motion event.

    Likewise, having the camera do the motion detection is a good idea in principal, but there are so many different cameras on the market that work in different ways that I think it would be impractical for us to try to implement such a feature.
