Thumbnail view?

Hi Ben,

It'd be really nice if there was a possibility to have a thumbnail view on the SS webserver. It's a bit painful trawling through all the images and videos right now.

Cheers,

Ed

  • This is a good idea in principle, however it would require SecuritySpy to either keep (and keep track of) thumbnail-sized previews of every captured file, or to generate the thumbnails dynamically when the list of captured files is requested. Each of these have significant performance implications. Still, maybe it would be nice to have a setting whereby the first x captured files have thumbnails, where x is a configurable number. I'll see what I can do.
  • Okay, thanks a lot. I think it would be nice to have the dynamic thumbnails as an option at least - for us, the internet connection is relatively slow but the computer is pretty fast. For the other option, is it hard for SecuritySpy to track the thumbnails? I'd have thought it could be created in the same way as the 'Quick' version? Anyway, I'll leave the implementation details to you... ;-)
  • Hi Ed, the "Quick" movie downloads are generated dynamically whenever they're requested (then kept around for a while in a cache, for fast delivery in case the same file is requested again). So yes a similar system for dynamically-generated previews of captured files could work quite well as long as there aren't too many requested at the same time!
  • Hi Ed, I thought this was such a good idea that I've implemented it in the latest version of SecuritySpy, released today!
  • I just checked out the newest version, saw the previews (which are great!) and thought to come here to see if it was related to my suggestion. Thanks very much for adding this extremely useful new feature ;-)
  • As an aged relative of Ed's, living in a different country but accessing the same webcams, I can say I really like the updated version, which is much easier to use. Thank you!
  • Great to hear! Thanks for the suggestion, I definitely think it makes browsing the captured footage via the web server much easier.
