@dannasoft - this problem is caused by the H.264 encoding "profile" used by the camera. What you'll need to do it set the profile to "baseline". Unfortunately it seems that Amcrest some cameras do not have such a setting available, but others do. Can you locate this anywhere in the camera's settings pages?
-
Ben, I cannot locate that setting - I only see resolution & fps settings, which I have played with to no avail.
-
Ben, it's true with IE you get many more setup options with this camera but sadly changing the encoding profile to baseline isn't one of them.
Oh well, at least we only bought two (for testing). I've tried plugging it directly into a gigabit switch but I swear it did work for a while. The "Encode" menu on this version gives the following options. Stream Type (Main Stream or Sub Stream) Record Audio, Resolution (I've got it at 720P now) Frame rate (30) Maximum Bit Rate (3072 now)
-
OK thanks for checking. I'm hopeful that Amcrest will add this option in the future. I will ask them and report back what they say about this.
-
Ben,
Any update?
-
I would be interested in a fix as well. Mine is doing the same as everyone else's, gray 2/3 of the screen. Been trying different suggestions but to no avail. Keep me updated please.
-
Add me to the list of interested parties - I have the same camera, and have seen the same as the other folks reporting.
-
Ben, any update?
-
Hi - I did actually hear back from Amcrest yesterday. They say: "the camera can only support the High profile H.264 currently, there is no way to set it to baseline or main profile yet. We are trying to add this setting in next firmware version, but currently we can only use the High profile only".
If/when they add this option, it will resolve the issue with the bad video. They didn't give a timeframe for this but I will ask them. Unfortunately there seems to be nothing that can be done at this time to get this particular camera working with SecuritySpy, which is rather disappointing. -
Ok, thanks Ben
-
Ben wondering if there was any movement on this? Exactly the same top third problem here on their cameras.
-
Hi @ijg1963 I have reached out to my contact at Amcrest and asked about this, so I will let you know what I hear back.
Have you tried the latest version of SecuritySpy (currently 4.0.3)? When this thread was started we were still on SecuritySpy v3, but now SecuritySpy v4 is out, and one of the changes is new video decompression APIs. I'm not sure if the result will be same or not, so it would be useful if you could test and let us know. -
Any updates? Struggling with the same camera...
-
Hi All, Amcrest have sent me some firmware which should add the option to set the camera's H.264 encoding to Baseline, thus making it work with SecuritySpy. I've emailed everyone above with links to download the firmware (if I missed you out please let me know). Please report back and let us know how you get on with the new firmware.
-
Hi, I couldn't get my camera to take the firmware update. Update process would quit after reaching 12% or so. I tried both files to make sure. My camera is the IP3M952E.
-
I got the camera to take the firmware update after 3 tries but still no luck. I can't see where under encoding I can change any setting and still get a third of the picture.
-
Are you sure the firmware updated properly? And there is no setting that you can see to set the encoding to "Baseline"?
-
After checking again it doesn't seem to have upgraded though it said it was successful. Still shows FW version 3407-1507300 which is the same as the camera fresh out of the box I bought with it. Now when I try the upgrade fails at about 15% completed.
Frustrating. -
Also Ben, upgraded to 4.0.1 Security Spy and the same issue exists.
-
Hi @Ben,
I just got my first Amcrest 1080p ProHD camera and updated it to the latest firmware (2.420.AC00.11.R, build : 2016-01-06) and regardless of encode mode (H.264B, H.264, H.264H) the stream records very poorly. The audio is all over the place and records in bursts and the video pauses every few seconds to allow the audio to play. Seems to switch back and forth for what's playing: audio or video, but not both and not in sync. Is the firmware you're speaking of newer than this latest version I've installed? If so, could I please get a link to it as well? I'm happy to test wherever needed to get this camera running smoothly with SS4. -
Hi @cstout the firmware I referred to is only for the "QCAM" range of cameras, which is different from the one you have. In any case it doesn't seem to have solved the issue for the QCAM users unfortunately.
It sounds like you may be having network problems - is the camera connected wirelessly? As a test, connect it by wired ethernet and see how it works. If it's fine, then it's the WiFi that's the issue. -
Hi @Ben, I didn't catch this was a different camera. I can start a new post if you'd like. Anyway, my network is exceptionally reliable and the camera is wired. When using the Amcrest app or even a third party iOS viewing app (LiveCams Pro) the picture and sound are in sync and perfectly smooth.
