New camera seems overly sensitive or something
I replaced my old 720P Dahua with a 1080P IPC-HFW4300S about a week ago. In the last couple of days, I have received over 800 emails due to the camera supposedly seeing something. But nothing is there. I have the trigger time set to 2 seconds. I have lots of masking to limit what trips it but it doesn't stop unless I mask it completely. HELP!!

A lot of fog is visible tonight, but during the day that wasn't the case. I have to turn the sensitivity all the way down to above 99 to prevent it, but I'm concerned that I will miss something I should be recording.
I hit my send limit for the day in a few minutes, My software is now seen as a spammer so I've turned off email notifications (strangely the software is recording less often than the emails were being sent).
Is there something I can do with the camera itself besides turning fown the resolution? -
Here are a couple of things to check:
- Make sure the "trigger time" setting in the Setup section of the Camera Settings window is at least 2s.
- Make sure the motion sensitivity is not higher than 50%.
- Set a higher reset period for email notifications (e.g. 60 seconds) so that lots of emails aren't sent in succession (this setting is called "After action, delay x seconds before it can be triggered again").
If you are still getting significant amount false-positive triggers, please can you email us a few example movie files that were captured, and we will take a look to see if we can suggest any settings tweaks, and/or use them to improve our motion-detection algorithm. -
I guess I was misunderstanding something: I assumed that the higher the sensitivity number, the less sensitive it was, because it appears to align with the motion detector meter; I was trying to set the sensitivity high enough that the motion-detection-o-meter rarely crossed it. But I guess I had that backwards, and I was actually exacerbating the problem?
Even though the camera is protected from the elements, it is outside, and rain or heavy fog seem to set it off. I think the new camera's higher resolution is seeing small motions that the old one missed. -
The higher the sensitivity number, the more sensitive it is. If you had it at 99 then it's no surprise that you were getting lots of false-positives! I hope that things are working much better with the settings I proposed above?

We'll see when it rains tonight! I did have it at 50 when this started so I'll monitor if I should turn it down more. I'm the meantime emails should be paced better.
