disk full error?!
After a year (or so) of successfully writing data to a 3 TB hard drive (actually 2 3TB mirrored hard drives), SecuritySpy threw me a disk full error this morning and moved my cameras to Passive mode.
I double checked to see if I have the setting correct in preferences--- Yep, it's still checked. "Auto remove old files based on disk space remaining... 10.00 GB free.... other volumes 10.00 GB free."
I use a RAID utility called SoftRAID that created and maintains the two mirrored RAID disks-- Both disks say "no errors."
Of course I could just manually remove files, but that defeats the purpose. This setup has been flawless for a long time. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Please check if the disk is actually full (Get Info in the Finder). I'm trying to determine if the error message is accurate, which would indicate that the auto-deletion routines are not functioning correctly for your drive for some reason.
If you restart your Mac and then reload SecuritySpy, does it then correctly start auto-deleting files again? -
I should have mentioned that it is appropriately full--- with 10 GB free, as set in preferences. So for some reason it wasn't deleting the old files to make room for the new ones. It did know, however, not to write on the last 10 GB.
To get the system up and running as quickly as possible, I deleted all my security camera video files from the disk. SecuritySpy is happy now-- It will take about a week for the drive to fill to capacity again.
I'm also running a "validate" check in SoftRAID to check that all sectors of both drives are operating correctly.
Meanwhile, I'll take your advice and reload SecuritySpy (checking for an update, if i've missed one). And of course, restarting the computer.
Thank you, as always, for your advice. I'll keep an eye on the system-- especially next week when the drive fills up again. -
If SecuritySpy is set to delete at 10 GB, and there was 10 GB available on the disk, then it sounds like the auto-delete is working correctly. The problem may be because 10 GB is not very much space, and other software including OS X may be creating files (such as temporary cache files or virtual memory files etc.) that use this all up, causing disk-full errors in SecuritySpy before it has a chance to delete more files to make space. So I would recommend increasing the auto-delete threshold, perhaps to 40 GB. Hopefully this will prevent such a situation from happening again in the future.

Well, here we are about 10 days after Security Spy claimed to fill up my hard drive and all is well, even set at a 10 GB buffer. This is a dedicated hard drive and although possible, it is unlikely that OS X is writing to it. I'll keep an eye on it and see how things go, but for now, my disk full error seems to be an anomaly. (It had been working fine for about a year prior to this event). Thank you again for all your help and I'll keep your additional recommendations in mind should the problem recur.

Here is an update, but now I'm stuck. It's clear that one of my RAID hard drives is failing-- and that's fine, so I removed them from the system and I will replace them both with new, larger, drives.
Unfortunately, now I can't startup Security Spy-- It either just bounces forever in the dock, or it gets stuck on "searching for capture destination..." (the capture destination does not exist). I've done multiple restarts, force quits, etc.
Any ideas?

Next update-- it just took a couple restarts and security spy started recording to the startup drive. I stopped it (for now) while I replace the dedicated drives. A bad drive really messes things up.

Good to hear you managed to resolve the issue. SecuritySpy will search for a missing drive upon startup, however it will give up after 30 seconds or so, so just waiting for a while when it does this should result in it switching to the startup drive instead.

... and strangely with my new drives just a month old, the disk full error has returned.
I use a set of two dedicated RAID (mirror) drives-- no other program or the OS use them for anything. Error code: 22177,-34 Disk full. After the error, SecuritySpy sets the cameras one at a time to passive mode.
The disk shows 9.74 GB available and I have it set to leave 10 GB free. It looks like the delete function in SecuritySpy has not been working properly. I will follow your advice in a previous entry and set the free space to 40 GB.
I had to force quit SecuritySpy and now it won't start up (bounces in dock then just gives up) --- I'm going to restart the computer. I'd like to figure out what is wrong-- Luckily I'm home today, but I'm not generally home to troubleshoot. -
... and again, after research and disassembling my RAID volumes, i found that one of my new drives was unresponsive. We're up and running with one hard drive.

Here we go again, I'm getting close to a disk full error. -- I changed my video storage disks to a USB 3 Drobo and set SecuritySpy to delete (the non startup disk) after 18 days. I do not use the Drobo for anything other than SecuritySpy. Some video is not getting deleted at the 18 day mark. I have a couple cameras whose data is still hanging now after a month. (oldest May 5 to today June 6). I'd appreciate any guidance.
