Can SecuritySpy and/or RemoteSight control PTZ functionality in a UVC compliant USB webcam?

Specifically I was wondering about the Logitech C930e, but I'd be interested in learning of other (good) USB webcams with PTZ (or just pan and tilt) that work. thks -jcb

  • Hi - the Logitech C930e does not have any motorised pan/tilt/zoom features; it is a fixed camera. Logitech describes PTZ functionality with their software, but this is digital PTZ, which simulates this functionality in software. As it isn't particularly useful, SecuritySpy does not support digital PTZ - instead it will record the whole frame from the camera at whatever resolution you specify in the Video Device Settings window.

While there do appear to be a few UVC cameras on the market that support true motorised pan/tilt features, they are very rare and not suitable for video surveillance (due to the limited cable lengths of USB), hence SecuritySpy does not support PTZ control via UVC. If you need a PTZ camera, please find a suitable network camera with these features on our list of supported cameras.

    Hope this helps.
  • Thanks for educating me. (BTW, I haven't had a problem using active USB cables for extended connection to USB devices.)
