Securityspy - missing recordings

Hello All,

I had an issue where we went to check one of our cameras for some recent recordings, but when I went to the camera, there were 0 files. No files in the actual folder either, for any day. I went in the settings to double check some things, and movies started to be recorded (no settings were changed). I still dont know where the past recordings went, as this was the only camera that this happened to and I have plenty of disk space left.

    It sounds like the camera in question could have been switched to Passive mode for some reason. In this mode, no recording will take place; the camera must be switched to Active mode for recording to take place. Check SecuritySpy's Log file (which you will find in the SecuritySpy folder within your Documents folder) to check if there are any errors reported there that could have prevented SecuritySpy from keeping the camera in Active mode.

    Another possibility is that someone switched the camera to Passive mode manually. This may have been in the software itself or via the web interface. In this case it will remain in Passive mode until switched back to Active mode manually, or until the schedule that is set for the camera next sets it back to Active (if a schedule is in use for the camera).

    Finally, though you said there is plenty of disk space, check the auto-delete settings in the preferences and compare this to the amount of disk space you have left (click on the disk in the Finder and select "Get Info" from the File menu). If the amount of disk space available is lower than these auto-delete limits, then the files will be automatically deleted very soon after they are created.

    thanks for the info. Unfortunately the logs never mention that specific camera, so I may have ran into a wall there. The camera in question (which i will refer to as the patio) is actually in active mode now, but not sure if it was in passive mode at the time(pretty sure no one changed the config)

    Now that you mention that I did realize I had an auto delete when the Hd gets to 100.GB and is sitting at 100.GB now. The one question I have is how is the behavior of the deletion? would securityspy have deleted all of the files from just that one camera(which is essentially what happened)?

    SecuritySpy keeps a list of the oldest files for all cameras, and when the disk space drops below the threshold it will start deleting the files, starting with the oldest. So you should see that files have been deleted across the board, not just from a single camera.

    Try freeing up some space on the drive, or lowering the auto-delete thresholds to, say 50 GB.
