Camera feed froze

Over night one of my camera feeds froze. I only noticed because 2 of my 3 cameras were showing daytime images but the one that froze was showing a night mode scene. There was no error in the UI (e.g. it wasn't acting like it lost the connection and was trying to reconnect). Looking at the recordings it seems it also stopped recording during the night so it wasn't just an issue updating the display.

The camera in question was my Hikvision DS-2CD2032-I. I was a bit uncomfortable there wasn't a message in the UI. I checked the log file and there was nothing particularly unusual as far as I could tell. I do periodically see the packet loss message but they are always spread out in time. But there was nothing unusual for the Hikvision camera over night. Any ideas?

Overall fps are lower at night than during the day so I don't think was a cause. The other 2 cameras only do 5fps each at night.

  • This isn't something we've come across before. SecuritySpy will detect timeouts - so if the camera hasn't delivered a new frame for 20 seconds or so, SecuritySpy will disconnect and reconnect, and if the reconnect fails it will report an error to the log. Because this didn't happen, I can only assume that the camera somehow got stuck and was sending the same frame over and over again. This would also explain why there was no recording, as there would be no apparent motion in the stream to trigger motion detection.

Some cameras have an option to automatically reboot themselves every night - this might be a good idea if this turns out to be an ongoing problem. Other than that I can't think of much else you can do (aside from the normal stuff like making sure the camera's firmware is up to date).

    Hey Ben-

I have this exact problem… Daily… Both of my Hikvision cameras freeze. When I access the camera directly via Bonjour… No problem, normal feed.

If I don't use the hikvision profile, I get no feed at all.

Firmware, frustratingly, is a challenge with this company though… But I have updated it one time now… Nothing changed. For some reason, they expect you to go to the retailer who you purchased this camera from to secure the firmware update… They need to understand I am THEIR client, and they should maintain the firmware upgrades via their corporate website.

I would like to buy more of these cameras: DS-2CD2132 & DS-2CD2432F. it typically starts with some flickering at the top of the screen… And then it just starts turning green and progressively works its way down the frame… Incredibly frustrating. There are other cameras, Dahua, on the same switch and cable back to the Mac, they have never froze.

    TIA

    Jay
