One camera, multiple streams.. How many licenses?

I set up a system with 3 IP cameras and a Mac Mini, and after playing around with various software options it seems like SecuritySpy is the best for my needs.

Question: For each camera I would like it to have two streams. One stream is for recording: high-res low frame rate. The other stream is for live viewing on a local network: low-res high frame rate. In all there are 6 video streams but only 3 physical cameras. Will a 4-camera license suffice? Does 4-camera license mean limited to 4 physical camera, limited to 4 recording streams, or limited to 4 video streams?

    Hi - I'm presuming you're using the "Manual configuration" option to add the different streams to SecuritySpy? In this case, as long as the IP address, ports, and input number settings are the same for both instances in the Video Device Settings window, you will be OK - SecuritySpy won't treat the additional instances as additional cameras.

    However, additional instances will increase your CPU usage, so you may be better off receiving a medium frame rate high-resolution stream for recording, and requesting from SecuritySpy's web server a lower-resolution stream for viewing if you want to.

    So yes I am using manual configuration for the secondary stream. It gets the same IP address as the main stream, format is set to RTSP UDP, and in the request box I put in "cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=1", which brings up the second stream for the particular model of camera. But I don't see "input number" as an option here. What does input number mean?

    Sounds like I'm all good with 4 license purchase?

    I have "no recompression of data from this device" for all streams. That seems to keep my Mac CPU swimming at 80% idle =)

    Hi - the "Input number" option is available for many device profiles, but you're correct that it doesn't appear when you have selected Manual Configuration. As long as you haven't used this setting at all, you'll be fine.

    So yes a 4-camera license is all you need. If you have any issues with demo messages appearing over the additional camera instances, please contact us and we'll fix it for you, but I don't think you'll have any problems.
