Dahua IPC-HFW2300R-Z
Greetings,
I've just purchased this Dahua IPC-HFW2300R-Z to add to my network of Q-See's. I needed a longer reach and this camera made by the same folks that make Q-See's seems to able to serve my needs.
Apparently there's a difference in software, where the Q-See work closer with Macs, but I was led to believe that I can use this camera on my network without to much trouble.
Any insight would be appreciated.

What does Q-See add to the Dahua cameras they sell?
Apparently there's a software/firmware difference but I'm unclear as to what it is.
Can the software be acquired separately, is there an App for that? -

As far as I know, Dahua is the original manufacturer and Q-See takes these cameras and re-brands them. There is therefore a firmware difference, but I'm not sure how far this goes beyond branding. Though I would expect Dahua firmware to be updated more than Q-See, neither brand seems to be very forthcoming with easy-to-find firmware updates on their web site. -
Thanks Ben. The mini-CD doesn't work on my system, I'll need to find an online resource. I'll also need to figure out how to configure it to work in Security Spy.
PSS is available though I don't know what it does or if it helps set up the camera, for that matter. A step by step instruction manual for connecting a Dahua to my Mac would probably help,
Perhaps I'm overstating this connectivity issue, it's just not my field of expertise, and the Q-See's seemed like a rational solution.

Hi Juan,
If you have having problems, please follow our instructions for setting up network cameras. Dahua cameras come with a fixed IP address by deafult, so I would assume this to be the case for Q-See cameras too.
So, consult the documentation that came with your camera to determine what its initial factory-set IP address is, and follow the "cameras with a fixed address by default" section on the above page.
Let us know if you continue to have problems. -
The camera arrived, I plugged it in, opened Security Spy >Settings>Video Device Settings> Network Device> New Device> when i clicked on the address box the new camera was there, Netgear Genie identified the IP address, and when the user name admin/admin didn't work I looked up the password options and found 666666/666666 and 888888/888888 as an option, crazy 8's won the prize.
The camera works as intended, a strain on the CPU, but still within reasonable limits.
I don't know what additional firmware Q-See adds to make these cameras Mac compatible, the set-up and operation all seem the same as my QCN8004B.

Great to hear you got it all working. As for the zoom, SecuritySpy currently doesn't have PTZ enabled for the Dahua profile, but we will look at this and add it as soon as we can. In the meantime, please try the ONVIF profile with your Dahua camera, as this should enable you to control the Zoom. Can you confirm? -
Yes, I can control it from there, it's a bit unstable though. I had noticed the option (greyed out) in SS and thought perhaps I didn't set something up correctly.
I have a QCN 8004B/ or Dahua IPC-HFW4300S and, on the right in the photo is A Dahua IPC-HFW2300R-Z. I'm really disappointed with the newest camera's night vision and I'm uncertain what can be done about it. I have the camera setup aside my office door here

I can't access your link - it says "forbidden".
The IPC-HFW2300R-Z, having mechanical zoom, has a larger lens and therefore less space around it for the infra-red LEDs, so this could explain the difference. However, Dahua specifies the same night-vision distance of 30m for both cameras, which is surprising considering what you are saying.
If it's not good enough, you could consider getting a separate infra-red LED light to illuminate the area in question - these are inexpensive and easy to install, and should make a significant difference to night-vision image quality. -

The white fence is 44ft from the camera, the sidewalk and easement is 10ft. My goal is to capture pedestrians on the sidewalk 44-50ft away. and not be alarmed by the 300 passing cars per day. The cars pass at 20-30 mph bicycles @10-15mph, pedestrians at 2-5 mph. I think I need about 3-4 second time delay to accomplish this end. 2 second delay alerts me for everything.
(The Photo) Both cameras are set to the same resolution and default settings.
I'm not sure if I should just use the camera on DayTime setting all the time, and add regular light, or use the night-time setting and add infra-red.
The motion sensor does pick-up pedestrians at 60ft during the day/50ft at night set-on daytime constantly, and my guess would be, set at less then half it's capability, maybe 6 or 8 mm zoom. But....at that distance there is no clarity at night.
My new problem is that I need more delay, 2 seconds is not long enough to eliminate passing cars. With 300 cars passing per day, I can get a lot of unwanted notices.
Any chance that the delay could be extended? °¿° -

Please download and install the latest beta version of SecuritySpy (currently 3.4.5b6). This version has support for controlling PTZ of Dahua cameras via the Dahua profile, and also allows you to select a longer trigger time for the motion detection (up to 4 seconds). Hopefully this longer trigger time will allow you to effectively filter out the cars while keeping the other motion.

Ops, apparently I blocked a whole IP range from Britain after being inundated with spam.
That was in 2011 and I forgot all about it. I unblocked 212. perhaps that will help. -

That was it! I can now access. It definitely looks to me that there is something wrong with the camera on the right. The image should be much clearer than this. It looks like there is something obscuring the lens - check if there is some clear plastic film protecting the lens that you need to remove. Or is the lens particularly dirty/dusty? -

I'm not sure if I should start a new thread with this question or not; so I'll start here.
I too am using the Dahua IPC-HFW2300R-Z with SecuritySpy (v3.4.8). It seems to work quite will using the Dahua profile, but it does not zoom. Was PTZ functionality disabled in the Dahua profile after version 3.4.5b6, referenced above?
Also, I cannot get it working at all using the ONVIF profile -- communication fails with an authorization error, even though the login credentials are correct and the same as those used when connecting via the Dahua profile. -
SecuritySpy 3.4.8 has PTZ control for Dahua cameras, and should be able to control the zoom for your IPC-HFW2300R-Z. Are the zoom buttons in the PTZ window available (i.e. clickable and not greyed out)?
Are you sure you are specifying the admin login details for the camera, rather than a lower-level login (e.g. viewer only)? This would explain why both zooming and ONVIF don't work.
