I have SecuritySpy and a GeoVision camera. It looks like SecuritySpy will do what I need it to do except contact the camera I have.

Is there some generic way I can get SecuritySpy to capture my camera? Is there a camera (or some cameras) in your list that are close enough to my GeoVision that I might get it to work?

The camera I have is a GeoVision GV-MFD1501 which can stream MJPEG and H.264. It has no special features except color video down to 0.01 lux.

I can view the camera and make some set up adjustments with Safari. Safari pulls in a QuickTime plug-in to view the video.

  • Hi JGTracy,

If it works in the QuickTime Plugin then it'll work with SecuritySpy. Please try this:

    - In the Video Device Settings window, create a new network device.
    - Set the device type to "Manual configuration”.
    - Enter the camera's IP address but leave the Port field empty.
    - Enter the camera’s username and password.
    - Select "RTSP TCP” from the Format menu.
    - Enter CH001.sdp as the Request

If that doesn't work, try CH002.sdp as the Request.

Let us know how you get on.
  • Thanks, but neither CH001 nor 002 work. I get "communication error" in the viewing screen.
While at it, I tried the other formats and the error message was "unrecognized request"
  • Would it be possible for you to put your camera online temporarily so that we can connect to it from here and do some testing? To do this you will have to set up the port forwarding settings on your router to forward incoming connections to the camera on port 80 and 554, and email us your public IP address (or DDNS name, which can be set up in SecuritySpy's Web Server Setup window) and the camera's username and password. I think this would be the best way for us to help you here.
  • I've given up on the GeoVision camera and sent it back. The camera was nice in its ability to produce color images at night without IR. However, the IP interface appeared to be done by a hack with 25 year old technology.
