Remote Patrol Issues
Thanks in advance for any help, love the software Ben!
History:
We seem to have randomly lost our remote access to our security spy server via the Remote Patrol app, and it was BEFORE we upgraded to 3.x. I upgraded us to 3.x and that didn't solve the problem on its own. We pay for a static ip address through dyndns.com and in the past I've always used that ip in the Remote Patrol settings to connect with no issues.
Present:
I can't remember if I needed to forward a port in the past to get things set up, but I went ahead and did so anyways. At this point I've changed the port to 9001 for HTTPS and forwarded the port with our router. When I save the settings in Remote Patrol I get the note to trust the certificate from our ip address, so clearly they are talking to each other. After that I get an error message saying "Error Creating Server" with the error code "401: unauthorized".
Another note is that although I have entered a name for our "Dynamic DNS Name" in the Security Spy web server settings and hit "Test" with the light staying green, I cannot in fact enter that address in a browser and see the camera. Let me know if there is any more info you need, hopefully I'm overlooking something silly!

Hi, it's difficult to diagnose this issue without further investigation but I can give you a few things to check:
dyndns.com doesn't provide you with a static IP address; it gives you an internet hostname that gets updated with your public IP address, even when it changes. Your public IP address is provided to you by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and is almost always dynamic unless you pay your ISP for a static one. So for example you will have yourname.dyndns.com as your DDNS address and this will always point to your public IP address.
SecuritySpy's DDNS feature works in exactly the same way as the dyndns.com service, just with much easier setup. You simply configure a DDNS name in the Web Server Settings window in SecuritySpy and then yourname.viewcam.me will always point to your public IP address. Assuming your port forwarding to SecuritySpy's HTTPS server is correctly configured on port 9001, the address you use to access your SecuritySpy server from the internet would be https://yourname.viewcam.me:9001/
The error code 401 indicates that the username or password you have supplied for the server in Remote Patrol is incorrect. So it seems that the port forwarding and DDNS are correctly configured, but you simply need to enter the correct username/password in Remote Patrol for it to successfully connect.
Hope this helps. -
The password is definitely correct, we never changed it from then to now but just to be sure I retyped it into the SS Web settings and in the setup of Remote Patrol with the same result. When I do the viewcam.me:PORT from a browser it asks me the name and password and it works but the page is just text (javascript/stylesheet info).

Please can you email us the address and username/password for your server so that we can look into this for you (you can create a temporary web server account without access to any cameras if you like; we just need to test the connection). It's difficult to know exactly what's going on from your description alone. Thanks.

Email sent, thanks

Having the same issue. SSL works fine over browsers but only works on remote patrol iphone app if I'm on my local network. It won't allow me to access it when I'm away from home on just my verizon phone network via SSL.
And I should say it only works on my pc browsers at home. Haven't had the chance to try SSL from another wifi location yet. -
RootForNU - can you connect to SecuritySpy at all via SSL from the internet? If not, then this is probably an issue with your port forwarding settings in your router. By default SecuritySpy uses port 8001 for HTTPS, so you'll need to forward this port in your router to make it accessible from outside your network, as per our instructions: Setting Up Your Router.
