Camera resets in wrong direction
Hello, I'm having Timeout Errors with my wanscam cameras. Every 1 to 2 days I get the following message:
Error communicating with the network device "Basement" 3.3,70900,800 The operation timed out
I have 2 Wanscam (AJ-C2WA-C118) and 2 Foscam cams wirelessly connected to a MacBook Pro running Security Spy. So far the Foscams work just fine. However, It seems the Wanscam cameras randomly reboot themselves and as a result, they reset and point in a useless direction. On top of that, one camera resets looking at a ceiling fan which in turn sets off the motion sensor and generates hundreds of emails.
Is there a way to have SS select one of the camera presets once communication is reestablished in order to keep them pointed in the right direction?
If not, any other suggestions for me?
Thanks,
Bob

Hi Bob,
Since Wanscam IP cameras are very similar to the Foscam IP cameras, you're probably seeing the same issue that is rampant with Foscam's cameras. They have a watchdog service that will reset the device if the network signal is too low or is lost. I have this problem on a couple of Foscam FI8910W's I have at my office. To alleviate it, I activated a tremendously useful feature which, if your Wanscams are clones or even similar in firmware to the Foscams then you should have this feature too.
-Log into the cameras that are resetting and pointing in the wrong direction after reboot. -Find your PT (Pan/Tilt) Settings. This is usually in "Device Management."
-Uncheck "Disable Preset"
-Check "Go to preset on boot"
-Submit/Save your setting changes
-After reboot finishes, log back into your camera and use your Pan/Tilt arrows to point the camera where you want it to go to should it reboot.
-Once your camera is positioned to your liking, you should see a "preset" area close to the PT arrows. Make sure preset 1 is selected in the drop-down list.
-Click "Set"
--After clicking set, at least on my cameras, there is no visual indicator that clicking "set" did anything. A quick way to test is to move your camera's position with the PT arrows and then click the "Go" link to have it use preset 1.
If all goes according to plan, you should see your camera automagically move itself back to the position that you defined. You can even go into device settings and reboot the camera if you want further verification that it goes to the preset after reboot.
I really hope this helps. When I got my Foscams and found they did this multiple times every night I was pretty upset. Since changing these settings the experience has been much more satisfactory.

Hi Chris,
A very good tip! I hadn't considered what my Foscam FI8910W would do after a power interruption, I have saved preset 1 as you suggest and it works every time.
Thanks,
Dave. -
