Slow Frame Rate - Samsung SNH-P6410BN

I am using version 3.4.3 of the software. In the view windows of my cams (4), I am getting only 1 FPS on each. The program is only using about 6% of my CPU on my mid-2010 iMac- running Yosemite- 16 gb RAM. I know the cams are capable of a frame rate of 30 fps, so I'm unclear on why the software view windows are only giving my 1 fps. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  • I would check the network bandwidth, especially with the known problems with Yosemite. Are you using a wired connection for all devices including the iMac - disable wifi to verify.
  • As Dave says, the network could well be the problem, especially over WiFi. Check the camera using a wired ethernet connection.

Secondly, make sure you are using the main"Samsung" device profile (in the Video Device Settings window in SecuritySpy).

Thirdly, try different "Format" options in the Video Device Settings window. Try both "JPEG HTTP" and "H.264 RTSP". The latter is generally the best one to use.

Finally, log on to the camera using a web browser and check its stream settings. It's possible that the camera itself is set to send video at 1fps for some reason.
  • Thanks for the suggestions. My iMac is ethernet - not wi-fi and my cams are all on wi-fi. Currently I have them all set to H.264 RTSP. The other device settings do not work. Also, there are no frame rate settings for the camera's themselves. I downloaded another software program- "Evocam" and when viewing, I am getting a much faster frame rate, which leads me to believe it is a Security Spy software issue with this camera. I really like Security Spy, and want to continue using, but would like to see this fixed.
  • Hi - there must be a simple explanation for this, but it's not clear at this point what that is. I've ordered one of these cameras for our testing - it will arrive tomorrow and I'll investigate. I'm sure we'll be able to get this fixed very soon.
  • Fantastic! Thanks!
  • I'm happy to report that it's an easy fix.

The camera implements several different stream profiles with varying levels of resolution and quality. This in itself is fairly typical, but most cameras allow you to set these up according to your requirements, whereas in the SNH-P6410BN they appear to be fixed and can't be configured via the web interface.

You can choose which stream profile to use via the "Input number" setting in the Video Device Settings window in SecuritySpy. So try a few different profiles, in conjunction with the "H.264 RTSP" Format option, to find one that works well for your purposes.

On my camera, profile 5 provides the full 2 MP resolution at 30 fps. However you might want to choose a different profile with a lower frame rate, as 30fps is excessive for general-purpose video surveillance. For example, profile 4 provides 15fps, which might be more suitable.

    Hope this helps.
  • That took care of it! Thank you for quickly providing a solution for me. I really appreciate it.
  • Great, happy to help!
