unable to view cameras using DDNS address

Hi,
I have 2 cameras setup remotely that are setup with no-ip DDNS. These are forwarded through my router using their own TCP ports and work fine when looking at them in a browser. When I try the same setup in SS, it doesn't connect to them. I currently have them setup with the actual [ip-address:port] in SS and that is working ok using the same port for HTTP and RTSP.

Is there a combination of HTTP and RTSP ports that need to be setup/forwarded for SS? I only have a single port (for each camera) forwarded when viewing them in a browse.

Thanks,
Aldon

  • When accessing the SS web server, which port are you using and is that port also NAT'd through your router to the SS server?

  • Hi Justin,
These cameras aren't even making it into SS so the web server shows a blank screen. When I configure the camera in the Video device settings dialog, it appears alongside my other cameras but I get the little status icon that appears when connecting to a camera with text below. It is in an endless loop of trying to connect.
    Thanks,

    Hi Aldon,

If you are able to connect to the cameras using a web browser, then you are connecting on the HTTP port, which is correctly forwarded in your router. Via HTTP, only certain streaming formats will work (these are specified via the Format option in the Video Device Settings window). JPEG HTTP or any of the RTSP-over-HTTP options will work (if your camera supports these), but the pure RTSP options will not work, so make sure you're not using one of these.

If you want to use one of the pure RTSP options (e.g. H.264 RTSP) then you must include the camera's RTSP port in the router's port forwarding rule, and specify this to SecuritySpy. The HTTP port and RTSP port will almost always be different.

In SecuritySpy, enter the no-ip DDNS address (e.g. example.noip.com) as the camera's address and enter the port number that you have used as the external (WAN) port in the router's port forwarding rule as the HTTP port.

And of course make sure you have selected the correct device type and username/password.

If you're still having problems, please email us and include SecuritySpy's Log file (which you'll find at ~/Documents/SecuritySpy/) and screenshots of the Video Device Settings window, showing the setup of these cameras.
