Multichannel USB Audio Device Channel Selection

How does SecuritySpy handle USB audio devices that have more than two channels when assigning them to a camera? Can you select which of the channels should be recorded along with the video?

The installation manual states that “There are also many devices, generally designed for studio audio recording, with more than two inputs. Any audio input device that advertises Mac compatibility should work with SecuritySpy.” while the user manual states that “ for a local audio input device (e.g. built-in or USB), you will have a choice here of mono or stereo audio, and various sample rates.” Does that mean that SecuritySpy will only accept the first two channels of a multichannel audio interface?

I’d like to be able to connect an 8x8 USB audio interface to SecuritySpy and be able to assign each input to a different pair of cameras, but need to know how SecuritySpy will behave before buying the audio interface.

  • For each camera, you can select the audio channel(s) you want to assign to it. Under Settings > Cameras > Setup, select the multichannel USB audio device as the audio input, then click the "Options…" button to the right of this: here you have a choice of channels. If you don't see these controls, this means you're using an old version of SecuritySpy - get the latest one here.

  • Thank you for the quick clarification. This sounds like SecuritySpy will easily be able to do something that would have been very convoluted and expensive with Axis Camera Station Pro.

  • Yes - SecuritySpy has been designed specifically to allow for this.
