Setting up SecuritySpy
Hi All. I have four Hikvision cameras. I had originally configured them with a Hikvision NVR. Things worked and I was happy with the quality of the video captured by these cameras. However, the interface was extremely clunky on the MacOS. For this reason, I bought a Mac Mini M2 and an unmanaged ethernet switch. Today I was quite excited to set things up. I plugged the Cat6 cable from all four cameras into the switch. I plugged the Cat6 cable from the router to the switch. And, I plugged the Mac mini into the switch. I bought and installed SecuritySpy.
The problem: I can't get the cameras to show up. I can see the cameras (they are discoverable via bonjour) but when I apply the settings the connection attempt times out.
What gives!?!?!
I'm guessing it is some sort of IP issue. I note that the Mac mini and router are on 192.168.0.xxx whereas the cameras are 192.168.254.xxx. I did try to change the IP address of one of the cameras to 192.168.0.20, but still ran into the same problem. And, I'm assuming that if the cameras are visible/reachable via bonjour that all is well.
In any case, I would appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Well. I figured it out. They all, of course, have to be on the same subnet (first three digits of the IP address need to be the same when the mask is 255.255.255.0).

Great to hear you worked this out. Your diagnosis is correct - devices have to be one the same subnet in order to communicate. I hope all is working well now and that you're enjoying SecuritySpy!
