My cameras are capable of H.265 but how do I get SS to use it.

I have (2) soon to be (4) Arecont Vision cameras that are capable of H.265, the models are AV02CLB-100 and AV02CMB-100. I can set the cameras via their own web interface and select that they use H.265 but in your software I can only select H.264, what should I do to activate H.265 mode? I have include a couple screenshots of the current settings for each camera as well as the settings on the camera themselves, picture is worth a thousand words.

Just to be clear, I change the settings via the cameras software to H.265 and then try to change the settings in SS and about 15-30 seconds later, the cameras seem to reset and when I check on the cameras via their webpage again they are back to H.264.

  • I think what you need to do is figure out which stream from your camera puts out h.265 and use that in the "input or stream number" box.... changing the format dropdown doesn't select anything.... I think it has to do with how that stream gets recorded instead.

  • @Jimmyjohnson, Thanks for the reply.

After some fiddling I was able to specify the stream and while I had the cameras web access page open change it to H.265 and all was well.

But for some reason, the camera itself will not save that H.265 setting to firmware??? Where the camera manual say there should be a "save to firmware" button there is not one available, so when I navigate away from that page in the cameras software it resets to H.264. Its the most confusing thing ever, definitely Not anything to do with SS

  • I googled that camera manufacturer and seems like they should have reasonable software. If you want to snap some screenshots for me to take a look at privately, I’m happy to help if I can.

  • Are you sure you're not required to use internet explorer for this camera?

  • SecuritySpy's current Arecont profile uses a request to obtain the H.264 stream, so it could be this that is causing the camera to reset to H.264 mode.

We can try to add an H.265 option to the Arecont profile in the next update, but for now you should use the ONVIF profile in SecuritySpy. When using the ONVIF profile, SecuritySpy accepts whatever stream format is being offered by the camera. Alternatively, you could try the "Manual Profile" setting in SecuirtySpy with the following "Request" string:

    h265.sdp?res=full

If you are seeing the camera reset to H.264 mode when using either the ONVIF profile or the manual profile, then this sounds to me like a camera issue.

The best way to determine what format is being provided by the camera is in the Camera Info window in SecuritySpy. There is a column that shows the video format - if you don't see it, click the header bar where you see the column names, and a menu pops up that allows you to add it.
