Many thanks for creating and posting this! I hope this will be useful for other users.

  • Cool thanks. Will try it out and let you know how it goes.

  • This is the most requested feature from my clients. Everybody wants plate recognition now. Cities are spending more money these days on Plate recognition cameras than on traditional video cameras. A company called FLOCK here in the US has skyrocketed to a multi billion dollar company in just a few years.

  • What are the general requirements for this to work? What kind of camera(s) are better suited? Location and distance, etc? Can residential locations take advantage of this, where would cameras be best placed, do they need to be down towards the street or can they be 30+ feet away and take advantage of certain cameras that would work at distance, etc?

I realize nighttime, all bets are off.

  • This is the camera you want for LPR: https://www.amazon.com/Loryta-IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E-Starlight-Network-English/dp/B07RJQT9NB/. I have it and it works. Needs to be pretty close to the road, though some claim to be able to capture at 150+ feet. Minimal angle if possible, so a straight view of the plate is your best bet. It's recommended to have two of these cameras since not all vehicles have front plates (and rear captures are more guaranteed since headlights are brighter). And it will work at night if the camera shutter speed and other settings are modified. This is a great resources where I got started: https://ipcamtalk.com/forums/lpr/.
