Router Question - [LAN access from remote] ??
I've checked my Netgear router logs and have come across several entries of a [LAN access from remote] trying to get to my Security Spy that is loacted on my MAC. See below
[LAN access from remote] from 35.177.123.44 port 21345 to 192.168.1.10 port 8020
This is an example - the incoming IP and port vary.
I do have Port forwarding for 8020 (SS) enabled on my Netgear.
Is this ok, is there anything I can do to stop it, etc.
Any insights would be appreaciated.
Thanks

If you don't think this is a valid connection from an authorised user, then the other possibility is a hacking attempt. This is unfortunately quite common for any server that is available to the Internet. The main things to do to protect yourself are to use strong passwords for your web accounts in SecuritySpy, and always using a secure HTTPS connection when you connect yourself over the Internet. As long as you follow this advice it's extremely unlikely that a hacker will be able to gain access.

Thanks !
I do use HTTPS and a strong password. I've also just implemented a VPN. I will continue to monitor.
Thnaks again and Happy New Year !

Hi Jim, that sounds good. Yes, a VPN offers another layer of protection, since then only clients connected to the VPN can access the server (assuming you then turn off port forwarding, so that VPN is the only connection method possible).
Happy new year to you too!
