RemoteSight for Zoom, FaceTime?

Getting my Sony ZV-1 USB (also HDMI) 4K camera to work as a live webcam with Zoom, FaceTime etc is a bit of a pain, requiring me to set up a virtual camera using OBS Studio or Sony's bloated Imaging Edge software. So I'm wondering if your RemoteSight application could offer an easier solution - or any solution at all for FaceTime which doesn't seem to want to recognise virtual cameras…?

  • I'm afraid not - RemoteSight turns local cameras into IP cameras - this is useful for sending the video over a network (e.g. to be recorded by our Mac NVR software SecuritySpy), but not useful for sending to FaceTime or Zoom, which can't receive such feeds.

The best way to get your camera (or any other HDMI camera) easily recognised by Zoom / FaceTime would be to use a Blackmagic UltraStudio 3G Recorder. This takes an HDMI input, connects to your Mac via Thunderbolt, and makes the feed available to any video application.

If you have an older Mac with a Thunderbolt 2 port, then there is a previous generation of this recorder box with a Thunderbolt 2 port, which you should be able to find second hand.

  • Pity. I can't think of anyone more likely to get a Mac virtual camera right than you.

And if you could get it to work in FaceTime when no-one else can, I would like to buy shares in SS.
