Keep data consumption as low as possible
Hi,
can I somehow affect the quality of remote viewing of my cams when I am connecting to the server from the AppleTV/iOS or Mac App remotely (not via LAN)?
I do not want the server to send the stream in the highest quality as Ia am wanting to keep the upload data bandwidth at my server side as low as possible!
Any options?

This is not possible when using the Apple TV app I'm afraid: in the "Cameras" view that displays the matrix of live cameras, this should not be very high bandwidth because the resolution is low and each camera only updates once per second. However, when you tap on an individual camera to view it, this is displayed at full resolution and at the fastest frame rate that the connection will allow. Similarly for the Multiplex view, the bandwidth can potentially be quite high.
One workaround to achieve what you want could be to add each camera to your SecuritySpy server twice: the second time using the substream (low-quality stream) provided by each camera, if your cameras support this. Then, you can view only these substream cameras on the tvOS app. The main disadvantage here is that each additional stream added to the server counts towards the limit imposed by the particular SecuritySpy license you own (e.g. 4 cameras, 8 cameras, 16 cameras etc.).
When using another copy of SecuritySpy for remote viewing, you can specify a low resolution and fame rate for each camera on the client copy of SecuritySpy under Preferences > Cameras > Device in order to keep the bandwidth usage low. -

wrt to the approach for the remote viewing on Mac, my presumption was that changing anything on the client side would not affect the server stream as the sizing is taking place on the client side. This was wrong.
Changing resolution affects the Spy stream on the server side. Thanks for the clatification and indeed it reduces now my bandwidth on the server side :-) -
Yes that is correct - when you change the streaming parameters on the client side, the client requests from the server a stream that is specific to these parameters, so it does affect the bandwidth of the stream. Good to hear this does what you want.
