Messed up picture trying to add new camera

I had 4 Reolink 410s all running 2560x1440 @10fps no sound. One of them died and I upgraded and bought a Reolink 810s. The resolution is a bit better (3840x2160) and it has sound. When I try to add the camera the mainstream picture is messed up. The center third is fine and the left and right sides are garbled. And for some reason, it's showing up as 20fps instead of 10fps that the camera is outputting. If I switch to the substream it's fine but that's 640x480 @500k.

I noticed other people are having problems with Reolink, this is the first time I've had problems. If I knew, I would have changed brands. Anyone see this before from any camera?

  • Hi Alex,

We have come across this before and unfortunately there is no known solution. The problem is that the H.265 video data that this camera sends cannot be correctly decoded, and the camera is not capable of sending H.264 data instead as a fallback.

Unfortunately I think the best solution would be for you to return the camera and get an alternative that is not Reolink. This is why we have a warning for Reolink cameras on our camera list.
  • Hi @thesillyrabbit - I've just had a message from another user who reports that updating his RLC-810A camera to the latest firmware version (v3.0.0.250_21040803) has resolved this issue. Could you please try this and report back?
  • I can't get the firmware you listed. When I go to app/website the latest firmware is from Jan (which I have)and the one you listed is from April. Honestly, I bought a replacement camera from Amcrest and I like it better anyways. I think slowly as my old cams die I'm going to move over to a more reputable brand so I don't have to worry about this anymore. I have an RMA open at REOLINK if they give me a new firmware I'll try it before I send it back.

OK, if you can send back the Reolink and swap from an Amcrest I think that would be the best course of action. Among the low-cost manufacturers (Reolink, Foscam, Amcrest etc.), Amcrest is the best in our opinion. The next step up would be something like Dahua or Hikvision.
  • UPDATE: Reolink sent me the new firmware from April and I upgraded. It kinda worked (ish). It will show up on SS but only at 2560*1440 with the H264 Codec. Which kinda defeats the whole purpose of upgrading because this is what my old cameras (reolink 410s) will do. For me the whole poin. of upgrading was that I wanted a uhd signal with h265 codec. I told them I'm done with it and sending the camera back.

Sidenote. The Amcrest picture quality I feel is so much better, I really didn't mind spending a little extra to upgrade. And it was 100x easier to set up than the reolink. So there you go.
  • Thanks for reporting back. I'm surprised that you're getting an H.264 stream out of this, because the specs of the RLC-810A from Reolink state H.265 only. But anyway if you can't get the full resolution then this is a reason alone to send it back. Good to hear that you are having success with Amcrest.
