Net Nanny preventing video feed to Security Spy

I recently installed Net Nanny Family Family Protection on our 2 macs and 6 PCs and various android devices.

Security Spy still worked until the wireless router had a reboot, and after this none of the 7 IP cameras were providing a video feed to Security Spy.

I rebooted wireless router, Imac ( where Security Spy is running ), prayed, and nothing would bring back the video feed.

Then I turned Net Nanny off, and rebooted both again, and now the feed is back.

It seems that Security Spy has a problem when used in conjunction with Net Nanny.

In my case there was a reboot of wireless router and Imac.

DOES SECURITY SPY HAVE PROBLEMS RUNNING IN CONJUNCTION WITH NET NANNY ?

Hi jadly - it seems to be the case that Net Nanny is blocking the connections between the camera and SecuritySpy, though I can't think of a reason why it should be doing this! I think the best course of action would be to email the developers of Net Nanny and ask them how to prevent this from happening. Tell them that the camera connections are either HTTP on port 80 (providing a MJPEG feed) or RTSP on port 554 (providing MPEG-4 or H.264 using RTP) and they will hopefully have a solution for you.
  • Hi Ben, I have confirmed that net nanny is indeed interfering with the video feed. Cameras could not be connected and then I disabled net nanny and all cameras were then received immediately. Once net nanny is enabled, the feed keeps going, but if your software is restarted, or the imac is restarteed, or my wireless router is restarted, then the feed stops. Yes its a problem with net nanny and I will contact them. I am surprised that no one else using your software uses net nanny . Thanks
