Trendnet TV-ip551w Audio?
My cheap trendnet TV-IP551w works perfectly in 3.2.1 on my mac pro, except for the audio.
The setup give the option for http with audio, but in the camera settings when allocating an audio input, the 'Network Device' is greyed out and not editable.
Does anyone have any idea on how this should be setup and whether audio is actually supported?
I'm using the 'TRENDnet TV-IP512(P/WN), TV-IP522P. profile, and I'm aware that my cheaper camera isnt directly supported, and help would be most welcome. I'm on port 80 in http only, should the rstp port be selected???? Please help

Hi Paul, we should be able to get this working for you.
Firstly, please download and install the latest version of SecuritySpy
This may fix the problem, but if not please answer/try the following:
In the Camera Settings window, are you saying that the whole "Audio input" menu (under the Audio tab) is greyed out and inaccessible, or just the "Network audio" item within this menu? This "Network audio" item is the one that you will want to use to get audio over the network from the camera.
Unfortunately I don't think either of the RTSP options will work for your camera (in the Format setting in the Video Device Settings window), as the camera doesn't support MPEG-4 or H.264 video, but you could try these anyway. -
Hi Ben, thank you for your response. I'm really impressed how you answer all these posts, especially as the software is so great!
I'm using 3.2.1 as I have had problems with USB camera's with 3.3. I can't seem to get 3.3 to recognise more than 1 USB camera. But I will try this, as trading off the audio for a second usb camera might be a better option for my setup.
Just the 'Network Audio' is greyed out in that menu, I wonder is there a special Kext that needs to be installed?
Many thanks,
Paul. -
Hi Paul, no problem, customer service is very important to us

Sorry about the USB camera problem in 3.3. Due to changes with built-in FaceTime cameras in newer Macs, we had to completely re-write the video input code for local devices (USB, FireWire, PCI etc.) to use a newer API provided by Apple, so this could explain the difference. Though this is surprising because the new API is actually meant to be better at sharing bandwidth between different USB devices and therefore they should work better together. You should try lowering the frame rate for each USB camera in the Video Device Settings window (local devices tab) - this should result in them using less bandwidth and therefore working better together. And/or, try reducing the resolution of each camera. You should be able to find some settings to enable both cameras to work together.
No kext is required for network audio - SecuritySpy supports this natively. But I'm afraid we can't fix any problems with older version of SecuritySpy so please try the latest one and let us know how you get on.
Hope this helps. -
Hi Ben, I've just applied 3.4 and unfortunately its the same problem.
I have my server in my garden shed, with powerline networking which works perfectly fine up to 25fps with my IP camera. My USB camera's (which are a little Heath Robinson to be honest) are attached to my mac which is a MacPro 3.1.
I have two modified Sony Eye Toy's (one PS2 one PS3{running from Macam's kexts I think}, with IR CS mount lenses at 12mm and 3.6mm facing in different directions from my shed. But they work really well at 640x480. Only at 2 frames per second though, if I increase the frame rate SecuritySpy borks. So you see, I can't lower the frame rate.
From 3.3 onwards only one camera is even detected at launch.
I can live with this and upgrade my setup if needs be if I can get the audio working, I have excellent audio to the rear of my property where the shed is, if I could add audio by using this camera to compliment my Foscam FI8095w's at the front of my property I would be very happy.
In 3.4, as in 3.2.1, when I select 'Network Audio' the settings button to the right of the source selection is still greyed out. I wonder if its specifically my machine. I will try it with my MBP.
Customer service means a hell of a lot to us end users too, and I thank you for your on-going support.
Best regards,
Paul. -
Tried it on my MBP and its the same situation with the audio, comes up as an option for that camera, but the settings are greyed out. Haven't managed to try the two USB cameras.

Hi Paul - please can you send screenshots to demonstrate this to us at support@bensoftware.com - this is really going to help us see exactly what is going on. To capture a screenshot, press command-shift-4 and select the area you want to capture. A file called "Screen shot" will appear on your desktop. Thanks.

Hi again Paul - I just read your post above more carefully and I see that you are referring to the audio "Device settings" button that is greyed out, rather than the "Network audio" option itself. This is normal for network audio, as there are no settings to configure. The Device settings button is only available for Mac OS audio sources, where you will have options to choose the same rate, channels, volume etc. With network audio sources on the other hand, the camera decides these options and SecuritySpy uses the audio in whatever format is provided.
So if you have the "Network audio" option available, and you have selected it, then your setup is fine and we need to investigate why audio isn't coming through.
Do you see a speaker icon next to the camera in the Camera Status window? Does clicking on it result in you hearing the live audio?
Please send us your log file to the email address above - it should tell us what is going wrong. You'll find it in the SecuritySpy folder within your Documents folder. -
Hi Ben, Sorry for the late reply.
You're correct that its the device settings that are greyed out. There is no speaker icon and this is the error from the log:
06-06-2014 2222-50: Audio for camera "Network camera", has been disabled due to an error from the audio device 3.4,398,404 File not found
10-06-2014 2247-56: Audio for camera "Network camera", has been disabled due to an error from the audio device 3.4,398,404 File not found

Hi Paul, thanks for the log entries - apparently the camera is rejecting SecuritySpy's requests for audio as it doesn't understand the request. Please try the "TRENDnet TV-IP400(W), TV-IP651(W/WI)" device type instead.
If that doesn't work, I think the best way forward would be for you to put the camera online for us to test. Is this possible? To set up access to your camera from the internet you will need to do the following two things:
1. Set up the Port Forwarding feature on your router to forward incoming connections to the camera on port 80. This feature could also be called "port mapping" or "virtual server", depending on your router. You will need to know your camera's IP address. For instructions for particular routers see http://www.portforward.com/
Your router will then forward incoming connections from the internet directly to your camera, allowing it to be accessed from the internet.
2. Set up a Dynamic DNS name - you can do this in the Web Server Setup window in SecuritySpy (accessible from the Settings menu). I will need this DDNS name to connect to your camera over the internet.
Please email us your DDNS address along with the camera's username and password. -
Thank you for your ongoing support Ben, I should have time to sort this out at the end of the week. I will email the details ASAP.
Paul -
Ben, apologies that I haven't had time to sort my routers, the camera is fine and active on my network, but its not possible to share a Dynamic DNS until I sort the router out.
Thanks for your support to date, I will endeavour to sort this as soon as possible. -
Ben, I have just emailed the details over to you. I finally had the time to sort out the port forwarding problem I had with my two routers.
Thanks,
Paul.
