Parking Space Detector / Static image comparison
Hi Ben,
I was wondering if SecuritySpy could do this or if anyone knows of a software package that could.
To provide security we have a camera facing out in a high traffic laneway over our roller door, however we are noticing a lot of people parking in front of the door. What we'd like to do is have a notification of when this occurs (Apple push notification or growl).
The idea would be that every 5 minutes or so (can be altered) SecuritySpy takes a static image and compares it against an original image, the original image has a mask of the area within the image to check for change. If there's change between the original image and the new static image, a notification is then generated.
There would perhaps need to be two static original images, one for day one for night. And an option of when to send the notification, ie has the last two checks shown a change, if yes send a notification.
Of course I'm sure there would be many other applications to this feature, ie has a door been left open in a stairwell etc etc.
If anyone knows how this can be done please let me know.

Hi Phil,
SecuritySpy cannot do exactly what you describe - I think it would be a bit of a challenge to implement this because the scene would look very different in different lighting conditions, so the software would have to employ some very clever image analysis.
However if you set up SecuritySpy's motion detection (including a mask to concentrate on the parking spot), then it will notify you whenever anything moves in the scene (e.g. a car driving in or out of the specified area).
Alternatively, get SecuritySpy to capture a timelapse movie (e.g. 1 frame per second, with a 30fps playback rate), so that if any such problem occurs you can refer back to this footage to see exactly what happened and get the car's number plate etc.
