Motion Trigger Tuning

I'm having real trouble getting SS to reliably trigger motion detection and have spent MANY hours adjusting trigger thresholds, mask and time, but continue to get a unmanageable level of false positives.

I have a single Y-Cam and for some time prior to SS used its internal motion detection notification system. This worked well even though the detection zones and triggers were crude; the only false positives were explainable by extreme high winds or wildlife. The native Y-Cam settings require Windows (an ActiveX control) and the desire to couple active/passive to the alarm system led me to SS. But I have been unable to get motion detection working in a useful manner.

I have masked way more than was defined in the Y-Cam settings and have dialled sensitivity down to 20%, with timing at 1s. The detection area is in the foreground of the camera, less than 4m away. The trigger area is so small that a person can pass through at walking speed and not trigger with 2s detection time. At less than 20% motion is never detected by a person. I have cut back the foliage (in the masked area).

Still false positives several times an hour when there is no wind, no movement (I have sat at the camera location for an afternoon and still get triggers when there is *nothing* happening).

So after a long preamble my question is - Is there a way to understand what in the images is triggering the motion detection? What 'tools' can I use to get the motion detection to work reliably in my installation.

Please can you email us a few of the false-positive files that have been generated and we will hopefully be able to suggest ways to resolve your problem. If the files are too big to attach to an email (our email server has a maximum per-message size of 20 MB), pease use WeTransfer to send us the files.

    Generally you will want to point the camera downwards to the area you want to view, and mask off any trees and bushes that might sway in the wind. If the camera view is too flat, so that it can see a long way, then distant movement may trigger recording. With the right combination of camera position and motion detection settings, good results can be obtained.
