Remote viewing causing MD triggering
Hello Ben,
I'm restarting the troubleshooting on an issue that has been vexing me for quite some time. We worked together on this before. This particular installation is the only one causing me problems - my home system and another one at a community center that I administer don't exhibit this issue. I'm sorry this message is long but I have spent an hour or so testing various scenarios and wrote as I went along.
This system is a Mac mini running a 4 cam license of SS 3.4.1 in a retail store in a different city that I assist. There is one camera - a Foscam 8910. There are two instances of the camera in SS, one for Day and one for Night, with different recording settings that get turned on and off with Schedules.
Certain actions cause the MD to get triggered to 100% when there is zero motion occurring in view of the camera. The grey and red Motion column in the Camera Status window gets fully pegged as if it's seeing motion. This happens either temporarily or continuously, depending on the sensitivity setting and trigger time of the camera in Camera Settings, and the actions noted below.
When connected to the Mac remotely using TeamViewer, opening the Main video window (all cameras) on that remote Mac temporarily causes MD to fully trigger to 100%. If trigger time is set at 1 frame, then MD starts recording. It's like a little blip in the motion sense but enough to trigger the MD indicator.
When viewing the camera via RemotePatrol on iOS, the Motion is *usually* fully pegged the entire time I'm on that camera viewing, or it flickers back and forth between no motion and full motion. This causes MD recording regardless of the trigger time setting.
When viewing the camera via Spyglass on iOS, the Motion is fully pegged the entire time I'm viewing the camera in the app. Again, this causes MD recording to be triggered the entire time I'm viewing.
In the two iOS examples above, the moment I leave the camera window or close the app, Motion is no longer being triggered and the MD recording stops after my post-recording time (in this case, 10 seconds).
Due to all the above, SecuritySpy fires off iOS notifications to RemotePatrol and/or Spyglass (if enabled in the app) when these events occur - because SS "thinks" that motion has occurred. I also have an Email Action set so the store owner gets emails of images when motion is detected. At the moment, I have those emails directed to me because of the spurious alerts.
I've experimented with different motion sensitivity settings or trigger times but the outcome is quite consistent as noted above.
I have a Quicktime screen recording of the remote Mac in question that I can share via Dropbox if you like. I can also give you or someone at Bensoftware remote access to the SS web server and/or the Mac via TeamViewer session codes if you have the desire or time to see if it happens when you try.
I'm posting this in the forum instead of using direct email support in case someone else has experienced this and can offer their input.
Thanks in advance!
James
