I am setting the ip numbers in the router for the cameras, and for each MAC number I need to define a new ip number.
Hence my number of video device doubles (files, licenses ..)

can I somehow use a another name for them in setup video devices and it uses the apple-mac to resolve the ip number? kind of like DNS but local? something like "name.local".

thanks

  • If the cameras support Bonjour then yes you can. In the Video Device Settings window, there's a small menu to the right of the address box. If you click it you will see all devices on your network that have an HTTP service and support Bonjour, so hopefully you will see your cameras in this list. If you don't, then it means that they don't support Bonjour, and you will need to set them all up with static IP addresses.

Personally though, I would always use static IP addresses. Bonjour works well for the most part, but it does involve an extra step to look up the IP address from the Bonjour name, which adds a failure mode to the system.
