Cameras not capturing video

I recently upgraded my server to a MacMini, 2.3ghz Core Duo, 8gb RAM, OSX 10.9.3 and I have difficulty recording video.
I have 3 HIKvision cameras(DS-2CD2032) set at Res=1028x720, FrameRate=10, Iframe=20, Video Quality=Medium, Encoding=H.264. With these settings the activity monitor shows the CPU at 31%.
SecuritySpy is set to "no recompression"
I not able to get the video to record to the default folder. I did notice in the activity monitor, the network was very busy at 1.85 MB/sec almost all due to SecuritySpy. Changing the video settings in SS to JPEG HTTP reduced Data Received to 390 KB/sec (yes KB)! It seemed to correspond with recording starting to work. I thought that it would be best to use the H.264 setting, but perhaps I am wrong. Is it possible that stopping and restarting SS somehow corrected the recording issue and was related to the network activity?

Thanks for any advice

  • The JPEG stream from this particular camera is at a much lower frame rate than the H.264 stream - this explains the difference in data rate transmitted from the camera to the computer. I would recommend you use the H.264 stream.

To get SecuritySpy to record, make sure you have enabled a capture option in the Camera Settings window (either continuous capture or motion detection), and then set the camera to Active mode (via the Control menu, or by right-clicking on the camera in any window). The camera must be in Active mode for any recording to take place.
