I can't seem to get SecuritySpy working with my Sony SNC-CX600W. Can someone give me the most likely device settings that should work?

The camera is new and using all defaults. I have tried creating a new 'Network Camera' device and selected ONVIF, put in the Admin username and password but all I get is 'Authentication Error'

The camera is working fine because when I browse the IP address in my web browser I get the Sony IPELA web server and can see my video feed.

  • Hi cventer - sorry you are having problems. If you are absolutely sure that you are using the correct username and password, then it could be a problem with the way the camera handles authentication for ONVIF connections. In fact we have seen such a problem with other Sony cameras but thought it was isolated to just a few models.

The first thing to try is the "Sony" profile (in the Device type menu in the Video Device Settings window). If that doesn't work, there are some further Sony profiles for specific models - I suggest you try each in turn, as one of them should work.

If the above doesn't work, the best way forward would be for you to put your camera online for us to test. To do this you'd have to add a port forwarding rule in your router to forward ports 80 and 554 to the camera, and then provide us with your DDNS name (which you can set up in the Web Server Setting window in SecuritySpy). Please email us if this is possible, or if you need further instructions on how to set this up.

Thanks Ben but Rod help me sort it out.

I had to uninstall Perian from my MacMini. Then set both the camera through the Sony IPELA web interface (Setting/Video/Video Codec) to H.264.

Then create a new Video Device in SecuritySpy with device type Sony, the IP address of the camera and set the mode to H.264.

    All working fine. :)

So this confirms the Sony SNC-CX600W works with SecuritySpy!
  • Great to hear that! Thanks for reporting back.
  • Hi,
Same camera, same settings, Perian is not installed, no result...
All is working with Mac and Windows web browsers like with my iPad using UcamPro software (RZ30, RZ50 model is selected in UcamPro)
Please, have you an other idea ?
  • Hi James, please can you tell me what error(s) are reported in SecuritySpy? If you can copy and paste the most recent few errors from SecuritySpy's log file (which you will find in the SecuritySpy folder within your Documents folder), then we will be able to advise further.

Also, are you using the "Sony" device profile in SecuritySpy, as indicated by cventer above, with the H.264 RTSP format selected?
  • Hi Ben, thank's for your prompt answer.
Yes Sony device is selected just as H.264 RTSP format.
H.264 RTSP format is also selected in the parameters of the camera.
3 types of errors in the log file (The server closed the connection is the most frequent)

08-09-2014 1155-18: Error communicating with the network device "Sony" 3.4.1,70219,8800 The server closed the connection
08-09-2014 1155-32: Error communicating with the network device "Sony" 3.4.1,70280,404 File not found
08-09-2014 1325-58: Error communicating with the network device "Sony" 3.4.1,70900,800 The operation timed out

An external acces will be possible for you if it is useful or necessary.
  • Hi James,

For some reason the camera seems to be rejecting SecuritySpy's connection attempts. If you can put the camera online for us (forward ports 80 and 554 to the camera in your router) and email us your DDNS address (you can set one up in the Web Server Settings window in SecuritySpy), then we will be able to look into this further for you. Let me know if you need further information about how to set this up.
